What is Premier League Darts?

Premier League Darts is an exciting competition that debuted in 2005. It runs annually from February to May and features eight of the world's top-ranked players.

The matches are organised by the PDC and held at venues in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands. It is one of darts’ Triple Crown events, alongside the World Championship and World Matchplay.

Premier League Darts Schedule, Fixtures, and Format

Premier League Darts matches are held every Thursday night between February and May. They’re hosted in various cities, announced at the start of the season. The season culminates with the playoffs at London’s O2 Arena.

The format can seem a little confusing to outsiders, particularly those who don’t follow darts regularly. Every PL Darts fixture is like a mini tournament, with eight players competing in four quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a grand final, after which the night’s winner is announced.

Each regular season match is decided as the best of eleven legs. The winner receives five points, the runner-up gets three points, and the losing semi-finalists receive two points.

At the end of May, the top four players in the table qualify for the playoffs in London.

The Playoffs Explained

The Premier League Darts season climaxes at the end of May, with the playoffs at London’s O2 Arena.

The top-ranked player going into the playoffs will meet the fourth-placed player, while the second-placed player meets the third-placed player.

The semi-finals are played in a best-of-19 legs format, and the winners will meet in the grand final, which is best-of-21 legs. The first player to eleven will win and be declared the Premier League Darts champion.

Prize Money

There’s more than pride on the line in the PDC Premier League. The prize pot across the competition is £1,000,000, with each nightly winner receiving £10,000. The winner of the tournament takes home £275,000.

Premier League Darts: Previous Winners

Luke Littler became the youngest winner in Premier League Darts history when he secured his first title in 2024. Englishman Phil Taylor won the first four PL Darts titles, securing six over the course of his glittering career.

This makes Taylor the second-most successful player in PL Darts history, behind Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman has won the title seven times, with his most recent win coming in the 2023 final against Gerwyn Price.
