The arrows are in your hands, so to speak – discover your Premier League Darts betting options at Parimatch Sportsbook and decide which bets to place.
Premier League Darts is one of the Triple Crown events, alongside the World Championship and the World Matchplay.
It features just eight players – the top four in the PDC Order of Merit and four wildcard picks, selected by a PDC committee.
Each Thursday during the Premier League Darts campaign, the eight players compete in a knockout tournament. Each match is played in a best-of-11 format, so the first player to six wins the tie.
Every week, players earn points based on their performance in that night’s tournament – five points for the winner, three points for the runner-up, and two points for each semi-finalist.
At the end of round 16, the four players with the most points advance to finals night, scheduled for the end of May.
The semi-finals on finals night are contested over 19 legs, and the grand final is decided over 21 legs.
As well as the prestige of landing a Triple Crown title, the players are competing for a share of £1,250,000 in prize money.
The winner of every round takes home £10,000, while the winner of the tournament receives £350,000. Finishing second to eighth in the Premier League awards the following:
One of the reasons that the Premier League is so popular is that each week is held at a different venue. Most of the nights are at British venues, but Rotterdam, Berlin, Dublin, and Antwerp are also on the circuit. Finals night is usually held at London’s O2 Arena.
The season runs from the middle of January until the end of May, with fixtures held every Thursday night.
Premier League Darts was first contested in 2005 at G-Mex in Manchester. Phil Taylor defeated Colin Lloyd 16-4 in the inaugural final, before winning the next three iterations of the tournament.
The Power won the Premier League six times before retiring – his last triumph came in the memorable 2012 final, when he defeated Australian Simon Whitlock 10-7 at the Premier League’s first finals night at the O2 Arena.
He was also the first man to complete a nine-dart finish in the final, achieving the feat on his way to a 10-8 win over James Wade, though Raymond van Barneveld had two nine-darters before him (one in 2006 and another in 2010).
Michael van Gerwen is the most successful player in Premier League history, having won the title seven times. He matched Taylor’s record of four consecutive wins by triumphing between 2016 and 2019.
