NBA Betting Markets & Odds

The sport was first played in America as far back as 1891 but was mostly a college sport until the formation of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1946. The first season of the NBA featured 11 teams and the finals were won by the Philadelphia Warriors.
Today, 30 teams play in the NBA and sadly the Philadelphia Warriors have long since folded. The 30 teams of the NBA are split into two conferences (the Eastern Conference and Western Conference), which are each then split into three divisions of five teams.
During the NBA season, usually running from October to April the following year, each team plays every other team for a total of 82 games per season. Teams play the other four teams in their division four times (16 games), the other 10 teams in the same conference four to six times (36 games), and the 15 teams in the other conference twice (30 games).
At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams from each conference are entered into the NBA playoffs. The eight teams play each other in a three round knockout tournament, with each round played as a best-of-seven series. The winning team from each conference then face off in a final best-of-seven series in the NBA Finals, held each year in June.

What are NBA Betting Markets?
Ahead of and throughout the NBA season, there are many ways to bet on NBA, including the following popular markets:
Championship winner
This is a bet on the team you think will win the NBA championship at the end of the season. You can bet on the winner before the season starts or wait to see how your chosen team begins the campaign before backing them.
Conference winner
Rather than picking the NBA championship winner, you can bet on the teams you think will win the Eastern and Western conferences.
Match winner
As NBA game weeks come around, you can pick the team you think will win an upcoming match.
Point spread
Point spread betting is popular with NBA fans, as it’s a form of handicap betting that levels the playing field somewhat. For instance, you might see an NBA spread of 2.5 points, meaning that the favourites would have to win by at least three points for your bet to be successful.
Under/over (total)
Another popular NBA betting option is the total bet, sometimes known as the over/under. Here, you can bet on whether you think over or under a specific number of points will be scored in a match.
For instance, the total line might be set at 220.5, and your job is to decide if both teams will score more or fewer than this number of points during the match.
Accumulator
Rather than betting on just one NBA team each week, you can back multiple NBA teams to win their respective fixtures during a game week. This is known as an accumulator bet, and every team in your selection must win for your bet to be successful.

Propositions
There are two types of proposition bets in basketball – player and team. These are performance-related bets and aren’t concerned with the match’s outcome. For instance, you might bet on the player to be the top point scorer or the over/under point total of a particular team.
NBA Recent Winners
The Oklahoma City Thunder won the 2025 NBA Championship. The Thunder played against the Eastern Conference champions, the Indiana Pacers, in the end-of-season showdown, winning 4-3 in the best-of-seven playoffs.
The Thunder enjoyed a remarkable season under coach Mark Daigneault, going 68-14 in an NBA-best regular season record. They beat the Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs before defeating the Indiana Pacers at the final hurdle.

NBA Recent History
In recent years, the NBA has been dominated by two clubs. Between 2015-2020, the Golden State Warriors reached five NBA Finals, winning three of them. And each time they triumphed it was with a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although the Cavaliers did get their revenge, triumphing over the Warriors in 2016.
In 2019, it was the Toronto Raptors that beat the Golden State Warriors and in 2020 neither team featured – with the Los Angeles Lakers defeating Miami Heat 4-2.
Following the Lakers' 2020 win, the next few seasons brought a little shift in the league's balance of power. In 2021, the Milwaukee Bucks won the title vs the Phoenix Suns 4-2.
The GS Warriors claimed the ring in 2022, by defeating the Boston Celtics 4-2. In 2023, the Denver Nuggets secured their first-ever NBA champinship title with a 4-1 victory over the Miami Heat.
The 2024 season saw the Boston Celtics defeat the Mavs (Dallas Mavericks) 4-1to lift their 18th frnachise title.
The most recent winners, in 2025, OKC Thunder won a dramatic seven-game series agains the Indiana Pacers, earning the first title since relocating from Seattle.
NBA's Most Valuble Player Award
The NBA’s MVP award was recently won two years in a row, 2018-19 and 2019-2020, by Greek player Giannis Antetokounmpo. He still has a way to go before he catches Michael Jordan (five) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (six) however.
In the seasons that followed, Nikola Jokić took MVP honors in both 2021 and 2022, before Joel Embiid claimed the award in 2023. Jokić reclaimed the title in 2024, and in 2025 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earned his first MVP award, marking a new era of standout individual performers.
ROTY Odds - Rookie of the Year
In 2019–20, Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant won Rookie of the Year, New Orleans Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram won Most Improved Player, and Antetokounmpo won Defensive Player of the Year.
The Rookie of the Year award continued spotlighting emerging talent: Scottie Barnes claimed the honor in 2022, followed by Paolo Banchero in 2023 and Victor “Wemby” Wembanyama in 2024. In 2025, Stephon Castle became the latest recipient, extending the Spurs’ legacy of promising young stars.
