What is CSGO Esports?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) is one of the world’s top video games with a thriving Esports ecosystem. Teams take the position of terrorists and counter-terrorists while completing objectives, such as planting and defusing bombs.

The professional Counter-Strike competitions see the teams play the newer game, Counter-Strike 2, but the format, competitions, and events remain the same.

Teams compete in various majors and leagues annually, several of which are held and organised by Valve, the game's creator. Most of these tournaments offer prize pools of $1,000,000 or more, signifying just how much is on the line for the biggest CSGO teams.

FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, and G2 Esports are among the most notable CSGO competitors, and they often claim the biggest prizes in the sport. You can bet on all major CSGO Esports teams and tournaments at Parimatch. There will be more on this shortly.

The Biggest CSGO Esports Teams

Valve maintains and updates the Counter-Strike global rankings every month. Teams win ranking points and prize money for every tournament, which reflects in the Valve standings. At the time of writing, here are the top ten CSGO teams in the world:

  • Vitality
  • MOUZ
  • Spirit
  • Team Falcons
  • The MongolZ
  • Aurora
  • G2 Esports
  • Natus Vincere
  • GamerLegion
  • FaZe Clan

Just like in professional sports, Esports teams regularly change their rosters, adding different players. This can significantly impact the overall Valve rankings.

The Main CSGO Esports Events

Professional Esports ecosystems are complex, with different leagues, events, and tournaments feeding into the overall rankings. Counter-Strike is no exception.

The most significant events on the CSGO calendar are the Major Championships, hosted by Valve. Before the Majors, there are numerous qualifying events, including regional, national, and continental qualifiers.

From 2025 onwards, 32 teams (up from 24) qualify for the Valve Majors, culminating in a grand final, over $1,000,000 in prize money, and ranking points for the top teams.

There were two Majors in 2024 – the Perfect World Shanghai Major and the PGL Major in Copenhagen. The same is true in 2025, with this year’s Majors in Austin, Texas, and Budapest, Hungary.

Alongside the Majors are top-tier circuit events, which aren’t arranged or sponsored by Valve. The ESL Pro Tour arranges the most prominent circuit events, including tournaments like the IEM Masters and the ESL Pro League.

BLAST also hosts some Counter-Strike events, including the Spring & Fall series, and DreamHack events, which many teams see as the stepping stones to the Majors.

Check out the calendar and schedule above for the latest Counter-Strike Esports events you can bet on at Parimatch.

CSGO Tournaments – Format & Schedule

Every CSGO tournament is unique in its format and schedule. That said, they all feature pre-tournament qualifiers, via which the lower-ranked teams can make it to the main event. They are joined by invited teams, usually the top eight or ten teams in the Valve rankings.

In the tournament proper, there’s usually a league phase (Swiss format), followed by a knockout round, which follows a single- or double-elimination bracket. All Counter-Strike tournaments end with a grand final, after which the winner is announced.

In most CSGO tournaments, the matches are best-of-three until the final, which is best-of-five. The winner of the top CSGO events takes home upwards of $250,000 from a tournament prize pool of over $1,000,000. As mentioned, if it’s a Valve-sanctioned event, the top teams will also receive ranking points.

CS:GO betting odds are among the most regularly sought-after in esports markets. This popular game has a huge international following, and there are many tournaments, leagues, and events worldwide.

These attract significant attention from esports enthusiasts and the wider betting community as the biggest names in the sport go head to head to earn their place in the CS:GO history books. If you’re new to the sport, below are some of the most prominent CS:GO events to consider:

  • ESL Pro League: The ESL Pro League is a prestigious league featuring top-tier CS:GO teams. It offers intense competition and high stakes, making it a favourite for players and bettors.
  • The Major Championships: Commonly known as “The Majors”, Valve sponsors this tournament and offers substantial prize pools that attract the top CS:GO teams worldwide.
  • IEM (Intel Extreme Masters): IEM tournaments are among the most popular events on the CS:GO calendar. They feature large prize pools and top teams worldwide in fierce competition.
  • DreamHack: DreamHack hosts various CS:GO tournaments throughout the year. They are known for their vibrant atmospheres and close competition, attracting top teams and delivering fantastic betting opportunities.
  • BLAST Premier: BLAST Premier is a global, multi-stage tournament series in which the best teams battle it out for fantastic prize money.

CSGO Betting Options

You have plenty of betting options at Parimatch for all major Counter-Strike events. The easiest way to bet on the action is to pick the team you think will win the event outright, be it Vitality, G2, or Natus Vincere.

However, you can also bet on each match within an Esports tournament, which is a good way to put your research to the test. You can bet on the match winner or place a correct score wager, depending on your confidence levels.

Counter-Strike is also great for map betting, and you can place bets on how many rounds you think each ‘map’ will last, over or under 19.5 rounds, for example. You can also bet on either team with a map handicap applied, which is a good way of levelling the playing field when betting on overwhelming Counter-Strike favourites.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a multifaceted game that allows fans to explore a comprehensive range of betting markets. Some are common across a range of sports, like outright tournament winners or correct score bets, and some are more specific to the game, such as pistol round winners and player performance bets.

The Parimatch CS:GO betting site is home to all the popular and most searched-for markets, which you can read more about below:

Outright winner

An outright winner is a bet placed on which team you believe will win an entire CS:GO tournament. Enjoy the best odds and build anticipation as the tournament plays out.

Match Winner

Another simple bet, match winner bets concentrate on a specific match, either in a tournament, league, or other CS:GO event. Pick and back a team you think will win. The odds on these bets will give you an indication of the likelihood of either team winning.

Map Winner

Get even more specific and bet on which team you think will win the individual map stages within a CS:GO match.

Correct Score

It's a trickier bet to hit, but it has better payout odds if you do. Can you predict the exact scoreline of a CS:GO match?

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting is advantageous in one-sided matches to even the playing field. The premise is that a handicap is placed on the stronger side, so the team must win by a predetermined margin for the bet to pay out.

Total Maps Player Under/Over

As with the over/under bets in football and other popular sports, this is a pre-match bet in which you predict whether the total number of maps played within any one match will be over or under a predetermined number.

Pistol Round Winner

An example of a CS:GO-specific bet, where you predict which team will win the first pistol round of a match or the second, etc.

First Blood

Likewise, first-blood bets predict which team or player scores the first kill in a match.

Player Performance

Place bets on specific players’ stats like kills, assists or deaths.
