The Six Nations returns on Friday 5 February 2027, with Ireland and England meeting in Dublin on the opening night.

France enter as defending champions and currently head the outright betting, followed by Ireland and England. That order may change well before kick-off, so use the live Six Nations odds above rather than relying on an old price quoted in the page copy.

The Championship runs from Friday 5 February until Saturday 13 March.

There are 15 matches in total, with every country facing the other five once. Home advantage alternates each year. England, Italy and Scotland host three fixtures in 2027, while France, Ireland and Wales play three times away.

Two weekends are kept clear during the competition. That break can help teams manage injuries, but it can also interrupt momentum after a strong start.

The final round is played entirely on Saturday 13 March. Italy face Wales first, England host Scotland and Ireland meet France in the last game of the Championship.

France sit at the front of the early Parimatch outright market. Ireland and England are next, with Scotland shorter than Italy and Wales at the time of this update.

That is only an early view.

The autumn internationals, injuries and squad selections will all influence the betting before February. A side that looks settled in August may arrive without its preferred fly-half, goal-kicker or front row.

The fixture list adds another wrinkle. France are defending champions, but they must visit England, Italy and Ireland. England have three games at home, although two are against France and Scotland. Ireland host only twice, yet those matches come against England and France.

Counting home fixtures alone misses the point. The opposition matters.

Ireland against England starts the Championship in Dublin on Friday 5 February. Scotland host Italy the following afternoon before France welcome Wales to Paris.

Round two brings Italy against Ireland and Scotland against Wales on Saturday 13 February. England then face France in London on Sunday.

Wales host Ireland in round three, followed by England against Italy. France and Scotland complete the weekend in Paris.

After the second break, Scotland play Ireland on Friday 5 March. Italy then host France, with Wales facing England in Cardiff later that Saturday.

Super Saturday arrives on 13 March. Italy play Wales, England meet Scotland in the Calcutta Cup and Ireland host France in the closing fixture.

A team can recover from one defeat and still win the title. Losing early does remove much of the margin for error, especially when bonus points are involved.

France have won the last two Championships.

Their 2026 title came down to a remarkable final match in Paris. England pushed them to the final whistle, but France held on for a 48-46 victory and retained the trophy.

The 2027 route looks awkward. France travel to London in round two and finish away to Ireland. A strong start against Wales would ease some pressure, yet the defending champions are unlikely to have many straightforward weekends.

Ireland’s schedule has a different shape. England visit Dublin first and France arrive on Super Saturday. Between those home fixtures, Ireland go to Italy, Wales and Scotland.

That gives them two major opportunities at the Aviva Stadium, separated by three away games that could test their consistency.

England will be pleased to have France, Italy and Scotland at home. Opening away to Ireland is hardly gentle, and the trip to Cardiff comes immediately after the second break.

Scotland should not be treated as an automatic outsider. They host Italy, Wales and Ireland, while their two away games are against France and England. Their title chance may depend on whether they can turn home advantage into three wins.

Italy and Wales begin at bigger prices. Both can still affect the title race, particularly in Rome and Cardiff, where visiting favourites rarely get an entirely comfortable afternoon.

Several Six Nations rivalries will appear again at the 2027 Rugby World Cup odds, with Ireland and Scotland sharing a pool and England drawn alongside Wales.

A win earns four Championship points. A draw is worth two.

Teams also receive one bonus point for scoring at least four tries. A losing side earns another bonus when the defeat is by seven points or fewer. It is possible to collect both bonuses in the same loss.

A team completing the Grand Slam receives three additional points. That rule prevents an unbeaten side from losing the Championship to another country that collected more ordinary bonus points.

When countries finish level on table points, points difference is used first. Tries scored provide the next tie-breaker. Head-to-head results do not take priority.

That keeps matches alive even when the winner appears decided. A late fourth try or losing bonus can still affect the final table several weeks later.

Start With the Actual Fixtures

Three home matches sound useful. Three home matches against strong opposition may not be.

England host France and Scotland. Italy welcome Ireland and France. Scotland’s home programme contains Ireland as well as Wales and Italy.

Look at each fixture separately before judging the outright odds.

Wait for the Teams

International squads are announced well before individual starting line-ups.

A player can be selected in the wider group and still miss the matchday 23. Others may return from injury without being ready to start.

This is especially important for try-scorer bets, kicking markets and handicaps. A change at fly-half or scrum-half can alter the way a team plays.

Goal-Kicking Can Decide Tight Games

A side does not need to score more tries to win.

Penalties, conversions and long-range kicks often decide close Six Nations matches. Wind and rain can make those chances harder, while a reliable kicker gives a team another route to the scoreboard.

Check who is actually taking the kicks. Reputation from a previous season is not enough.

Discipline Matters

One yellow card can turn a balanced match.

Repeated penalties may be just as damaging, giving the opposition territory and chances to kick at goal. Teams that defend aggressively need to stay onside and avoid careless contact around the breakdown.

Recent form offers a better guide than a country’s old reputation for discipline.

Do Not Ignore Bonus-Point Motivation

A team leading comfortably may continue attacking in search of a fourth try.

A side eight or nine points behind may take a late penalty or chase another score to secure a losing bonus. Those decisions can affect handicaps, total points and the outright table.

The scoreboard does not tell the whole story unless you also know what each team needs.

Championship Winner

The outright market covers the team that finishes top after five rounds.

Home fixtures, squad depth and the closing schedule all deserve consideration. France may begin as favourites, but their three away matches create a different challenge from the one they faced in 2026.

Grand Slam

A Grand Slam bet requires a country to win all five games.

One defeat or draw ends the wager. A team can therefore win the Six Nations without landing the Grand Slam market.

Triple Crown

Only England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales can win the Triple Crown.

The selected Home Nation must beat the other three. Matches against France and Italy still count towards the Championship but do not affect this particular award.

Match Betting

A standard Six Nations match market usually covers the home win, draw and away win after 80 minutes.

The draw should not be overlooked. There is no extra time in a Championship fixture, so a level score at full-time remains a draw.

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting gives one side a points advantage or deficit.

A team backed at -5.5 must win by six or more. A +5.5 selection can win outright or lose by no more than five.

Lines will differ from match to match and can move after team news.

Total Points

Rather than choosing the winner, total-points betting asks whether the combined score will finish above or below a quoted line.

Weather, kicking decisions and playing style can all move the likely total. A match involving two attacking teams can still become low-scoring in difficult conditions.

Try-Scorer Betting

First and anytime try-scorer markets should be approached after the starting teams are confirmed.

A winger may have an appealing record but receive few chances if the match is expected to be dominated by kicking and set pieces. Forwards can become more relevant when a team has a strong line-out maul close to the try line.

Live Betting

Available in-play betting may include updated match odds, handicaps and points lines after kick-off.

Odds can move sharply following a try, card or injury. Markets may be suspended while officials review an incident.

France retained the title by defeating England 48-46 at the Stade de France.

The final was frantic rather than controlled, but France did enough to finish the tournament as champions for a second successive year.

The competition began in 1883 as the Home Nations Championship, involving England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

France later joined to create the Five Nations. Italy’s arrival in 2000 produced the tournament’s current six-team format. Each country now plays the other five once, with the venue reversing the following season.

The Wooden Spoon remains an unofficial name for finishing bottom. The Grand Slam and Triple Crown are formal honours attached to specific results during the Championship.
