What is VALORANT Esports?

VALORANT is a free-to-play tactical first-person shooter game from Riot Games, released in 2020. Matches are contested by two teams of five players, alternating between attack and defence.  

Players take control of different agents, who each have specific skills. The result is a highly tactical affair that requires top teamwork and strategy for a squad to overcome their enemy.  

The VALORANT Esports scene centres on the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). Masters events run throughout the year, with the top teams competing in different regions for ranking points, which help them qualify for the annual VALORANT Champions event.  

This major Esports event was in Seoul in 2024, Paris in 2025, and will be in Shanghai in 2026. A prize pool of $2,250,000 is up for grabs, with the winner good for $1,000,000.
