Big Bash League Odds and Betting

Six weeks of summer cricket, eight teams and Perth carrying the trophy into it all. BBL|16 gets going on 12 December 2026, when Melbourne Renegades and the Scorchers meet in Chennai.

The latest Big Bash League odds appear above this guide. Perth begin the build-up at the front of the outright market after collecting a record sixth title, while the other seven teams have until January to knock them off course. Prices can move as squads develop and matches are played, so use the live market rather than an old figure quoted elsewhere.

This page covers the BBL schedule, competition format and the main betting markets available before and during the tournament. Today's wider match list can be found under cricket betting.

When Does the 2026/27 Big Bash League Start?

Saturday 12 December is the date to circle. The Renegades face Perth at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium that afternoon, taking the Big Bash beyond Australia for the first time. The title will be settled 45 days later, on Tuesday 26 January 2027.

Three days later, the Australian leg opens with Brisbane Heat against Sydney Sixers at the Gabba. From there, the only blank square before the closing weekend is Christmas Day.

Key Big Bash League 2026/27 Dates

Stage Date Detail
Season opener 12 December 2026 Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers in Chennai
First game in Australia 15 December 2026 Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers at the Gabba
Regular season ends 17 January 2027 Final two league matches
Qualifier 19 January 2027 1st vs 2nd
Knockout 20 January 2027 3rd vs 4th
Challenger 23 January 2027 Qualifier loser vs Knockout winner
BBL final 26 January 2027 Winner of Qualifier vs winner of Challenger

Names and venues will fall into place with the table. Win the Qualifier and a team receives two prizes: a direct passage into the decider and hosting rights.

Big Bash League Teams

No arrivals or departures here. The same eight city-based franchises return for the 2026/27 men's competition:

Team BBL titles 2025/26 finish
Adelaide Strikers 1 6th
Brisbane Heat 2 5th
Hobart Hurricanes 1 Challenger
Melbourne Renegades 1 7th
Melbourne Stars 0 Knockout
Perth Scorchers 6 Champions
Sydney Sixers 3 Runners-up
Sydney Thunder 1 8th

Nine of the first 15 trophies ended up in Perth or with Sydney Sixers. Brisbane Heat are the only other repeat winners. At the opposite end of that list sit Melbourne Stars, still waiting for title number one.

Still, July is early for judging any of them. Overseas deals remain open, bodies have four more months to hold together and one international call can pull a major name from the likely XI.

How Does the Big Bash League Format Work?

At heart, the game is straightforward T20 cricket. Both sides can bat for 20 overs, unless ten wickets fall or the chasing team reaches its target sooner. Level after two completed innings? A Super Over follows.

The fixture list is not a complete home-and-away round-robin. Ten games per club produce 40 regular-season fixtures. Victories earn two points, ties and washouts one, and net run rate comes into play when totals match.

Only the top four move on:

  1. First plays second in the Qualifier. The winner reaches the final.
  2. Third meets fourth in the Knockout. The defeated team leaves the tournament.
  3. The Qualifier loser then hosts the Knockout winner in the Challenger.
  4. The Challenger winner travels to face the Qualifier winner in the BBL final.

This format gives the top two a second route to the final. Third and fourth have no such protection.

New Big Bash Designated Batter Rule

BBL|16 brings an optional change to the men's competition. Before the bat flip, a club may name one designated batter and one designated fielder within its match line-up.

The designated batter can bat but cannot bowl or take the field. At the innings break, the designated fielder takes his place. That player may field or keep wicket, but cannot bat or bowl. Teams which do not want the split can continue with a traditional XI.

It is less flexible than the IPL's Impact Player rule. The pair must be declared before the bat flip, their jobs are fixed and neither may bowl.

The change could influence innings totals and player-run markets. Check the confirmed line-up rather than assuming every named player has the same duties.

Who Are the Big Bash League Favourites?

Perth Scorchers sit at the head of the early Big Bash winner odds. Their six championships are twice as many as any rival has managed, and the sixth arrived only last January.

History is only part of the market. Sydney Sixers reached last season's final, Hobart Hurricanes won BBL|14 and Melbourne Stars returned to the playoffs with six wins.

Early prices are a starting opinion. Some contracts remain unsigned, while Australia's Test tour of India may remove major names from the closing weeks. Check the latest list above.

What Happened in the 2025/26 Big Bash League?

Perth's response to missing one finals series was emphatic: seven wins and first place. Sydney Sixers and Hobart finished a point back, leaving Melbourne Stars to claim the fourth and final ticket.

Next came a 48-run Qualifier win over Sydney. Hobart squeezed past the Stars in the other branch, only for the Sixers to end their run in the Challenger.

The final never escaped Perth's hands for long. David Payne helped knock Sydney over for 132, Mitch Marsh made a measured 44 and Josh Inglis ended the chase with a six. Fifteen deliveries remained and four wickets had fallen.

Finn Allen's 466 runs were the competition's largest pile. Useful evidence, certainly, though the next season still brings new form, new availability and another set of selections.

Big Bash League Betting Markets

Big Bash betting can cover six weeks, one match, an innings or a single player's performance. Read the market title and settlement rules closely. Two selections which sound alike can depend on very different results.

Big Bash Winner Odds

The outright winner market asks which franchise will lift the trophy on 26 January. A strong regular season is not enough. The selected team must come through the finals and win the decider.

Outright BBL odds usually remain available after the competition begins. Results, injuries and a team's route through the table can all cause the price to shorten or drift.

Match Winner

Choose the team you believe will win an individual BBL fixture. The outright championship price has no bearing on settlement. A team can lose a league match and still win the tournament weeks later.

Tied, abandoned or shortened games may have their own rules, so check them when weather threatens.

Top Tournament Batter

This market is settled on the player who scores the most runs across the competition. Finn Allen led BBL|15 with 466, though that figure is a reference point rather than a target for the next winner.

Availability and batting position matter. An opener usually has more balls to face than a finisher, but role guarantees nothing.

Top Tournament Bowler

Back the player you think will take the most wickets during BBL|16. New-ball and closing overs can create chances, although those stages can also be expensive. Check whether finals count and how dead heats are handled.

Player Runs and Wickets

Player markets may set a line for runs scored or wickets taken in one match. The choice is whether the final number lands over or under that line.

For runs, look at batting position and the designated batter rule. For wickets, role and likely overs matter.

Team and Innings Totals

Totals betting removes the need to choose a winner. Instead, predict whether a team, innings or match finishes above or below the displayed number.

Ground dimensions, pitch pace and the confirmed line-up may all shape a total. Rain can shorten an innings, so read how the market deals with reduced overs.

In-Play Big Bash Betting

Once a match begins, available prices can respond to wickets, partnerships, the required run rate and the remaining overs. The in-play betting page shows which BBL markets are open at that moment.

Live pictures and score feeds can arrive at slightly different times. Use the match state displayed beside the market before confirming a selection.

What Can Affect Big Bash League Odds?

An outright price in July has to account for plenty which is not yet settled.

Player Availability

International cricket and other leagues share the calendar. A major name may only play part of the season, while a Test call-up can remove somebody before the finals.

Team Form and Net Run Rate

Ten games leave little time for a slow start. One heavy defeat can damage both a team's points position and net run rate, which separates sides tied on points.

Venue and Travel

Perth offers different dimensions and conditions from the SCG, Gabba or Junction Oval. BBL|16 adds Chennai to that list. Travel can also pile up during the finals.

Toss, Pitch and Weather

The bat flip reveals which side has first use of the pitch. Rain can then shorten a match and bring the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method into play.

Squad News and Market Movement

A signing, injury or run of bets can move Big Bash League odds. A shorter price records where the market has travelled. It does not prove the selection will win.
