Breeders Cup Betting Odds

When it comes to prestigious events in the world of horse racing, there are very few that top the Breeders Cup, which many call horse racing’s “World Championships.” Established in 1984 by a group of industry leaders, the event became a way for the best thoroughbred horses to be showcased. The Breeders Cup has been held annually ever since, with the meeting spanning two days and being made up of a series of races. Typically, the event is held in the autumn at top racetracks in North America.

The Breeders Cup has become renowned for its high stakes, which applies both financially and in terms of prestige. In recent years, the event’s total purse has breached the £30 million mark, with millions in prize money available for individual races. The standout races remain the Breeders Cup Classic, Turf, Distaff, and Sprint, with horses from all around the world coming to compete. The Breeders Cup Classic is the crown jewel of the entire meeting, with a purse in the region of £6 million available.

The Breeders Cup happens in North America, but its appeal is global. Horses, trainers, and jockeys from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are regular participants. Beyond the racing action, the Breeders Cup also draws the attention of industry faces and celebrities, with many keen to enjoy the glitz and glamour of the event.

What are Breeders Cup Betting Markets?

The Breeders Cup is a global horse racing event. Therefore, it appeals to bettors, who have a healthy selection of betting markets to choose from.

Win Bet

Racing at the Breeders Cup takes place over two days, and there are plenty of races to choose from across the meeting. The most straightforward bet to place is a win bet, which is when a bettor predicts which horse will win a particular race. This can be a win bet on one horse to win as a single, or it can be multiple across different races, but the chances of success decrease as the odds increase due to more legs of a bet being added.

Each-Way Bet

The first thing to note about an each-way bet is that it’s two bets in one, which means a £5 each-way bet would produce a total stake of £10. This is because an each-way bet is a bet to win and a bet for it to place, usually in the first three, depending on the number of runners. There’s more chance of success with an each-way bet, as the selection doesn’t necessarily have to win, but the odds are reduced when a horse places.

Forecast Bet

The forecast bet is an interesting proposition because it can be tweaked to be more favourable to the bettor. A forecast bet is selecting the horses to finish first and second in a race, and they must cross the line in that order. However, it’s also possible to do a forecast where the horses can finish first and second in any order, which is sometimes known as a reverse forecast.

Who are the favourites to win in the Breeders Cup?

City of Troy, a horse trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, is the favourite to win the Breeders Cup Classic in 2024. Last year, the duo of O’Brien and Moore tasted success in the Turf, with Auguste Rodin finishing first. But this time round, they will go for the big price in the biggest race of the meeting.

Fierceness is expected to challenge City of Troy after victories in the Travers Stakes and the Jim Dandy. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the three-year-old is in excellent form and will do well on the dirt track.

Forever Young should be there or thereabouts in the race, too. A third-place finish in the Kentucky Derby followed success in the UAE Derby. The stamina is there, and Forever Young is a proven international winner.

Further out in the odds, a horse with an outside chance is Ushba Tesoro. If there’s a horse to cause an upset, this could be the one, as closing races in the final stretch is something it’s made a habit of.
