2027 US PGA Championship Odds & Betting Markets

Aaron Rai reached the turn on Sunday at Aronimink looking like one of many players who might win. By the time he walked off the 18th green, nobody was particularly close.

The Englishman played his final ten holes in six under par, signed for a 65 and won the 2026 PGA Championship by three strokes. His nine-under total left Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley sharing second place. It was Rai’s first major title and made him the first Englishman to lift the Wanamaker Trophy in more than a century.

The defence takes him to Texas. Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco will host the 2027 Championship from 20 to 23 May, marking the course’s first men’s major.

When and Where Is the 2027 PGA Championship?

The 109th PGA Championship will be played at Fields Ranch East in Frisco, Texas.

Tournament rounds run from Thursday 20 May to Sunday 23 May. Practice sessions and other championship events begin earlier in the week. The competition brings men’s major golf back to the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the first time in 64 years.

Fields Ranch East was designed by Gil Hanse and opened as part of the wider PGA Frisco development in 2023. It has already hosted the Senior PGA Championship and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, giving organisers experience of preparing the course for major competition.

The venue was built with events like this in mind. It can stretch beyond 7,800 yards, yet length is not expected to provide its only defence. Fairways are relatively generous before the challenge tightens around smaller greens, natural-looking bunkers and awkward recovery areas.

And then there is the wind.

North Texas weather can turn a routine approach into a very different shot within minutes. A player who controls trajectory and distance may gain more than somebody relying entirely on power.

What Type of Golfer Could Suit PGA Frisco?

Fields Ranch East should reward aggressive driving, but only when it is followed by accurate iron play.

The width from the tee allows players to use the driver. Missing the correct section of a green may still leave a difficult chip, bunker shot or long putt over several slopes. The course’s smaller targets place greater pressure on approach distance and direction than the generous fairways might initially suggest. That is an inference from the published course design rather than a guarantee about the final championship setup.

Wind performance deserves attention as May approaches. Some golfers are comfortable reducing spin and flighting the ball down. Others prefer attacking high through the air, which can become harder when gusts change direction.

A reliable short game will help too. Even the leading ball strikers will miss greens across four rounds. The eventual champion may be the golfer who turns those misses into pars rather than allowing a difficult lie to become a double bogey.

The exact setup remains unknown. Tee positions, rough length, green speeds and weather will all influence which skills matter most once the championship begins.

Early 2027 US PGA Favourites

Parimatch prices should be checked directly once its 2027 market is available. Early markets elsewhere currently place Scottie Scheffler at the front, with Rory McIlroy next and Jon Rahm, Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg forming the nearest chasing group.

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler’s position is hardly surprising.

He won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in 2025 and remains one of the game’s most consistent tee-to-green players. The combination of width, length and demanding approaches at Fields Ranch East looks well suited to a golfer who repeatedly gives himself birdie chances without making many large mistakes.

He will also have the advantage of competing close to home. Scheffler grew up in the Dallas area, so PGA Frisco should feel far more familiar than the average first-time major venue.

A short price leaves little room for error, though. Even the strongest favourite must outperform more than 150 opponents over four rounds.

Scheffler’s early-season form can be followed through the latest US Masters odds.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy has won this championship twice, at Kiawah Island in 2012 and Valhalla in 2014.

His length should remove much of the pressure from a course stretching beyond 7,800 yards. He can also launch long irons high enough to attack small greens when other players are trying to hold them with lower-percentage shots.

Fields Ranch East will ask for patience as well as power. McIlroy’s chances may depend on whether he avoids the short putting misses and untidy stretches that have occasionally interrupted otherwise excellent major weeks.

He entered the final round at Aronimink only one shot from the lead in 2026 but could not match Rai’s finish.

Jon Rahm

Rahm came closer than anyone other than Smalley to stopping Rai.

He finished the 2026 tournament on six under after a closing 68, sharing second place. His controlled power, ability to shape iron shots and comfort in wind make him an obvious candidate for another challenge in Texas.

The difficulty is price versus recent results. Rahm has already proved he can win majors, but bettors still need evidence that his game is peaking at the correct time rather than relying on his name and previous record.

The US Open golf odds will provide another major test shortly after PGA Frisco.

Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg

Young sits prominently in the early betting after another strong season. Few players can match his speed, although Fields Ranch East will demand more than a succession of long drives.

Schauffele brings a major record that includes the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla. His temperament may suit a leaderboard where several players remain within reach entering Sunday.

Åberg finished tied fourth at Aronimink on five under, only four shots behind Rai. He already owns plenty of experience in Texas and combines distance with an unusually tidy long-iron game.

Their performances later in the season can be followed through the latest Open Championship odds.

Aaron Rai

Defending champions do not usually begin at the head of the next market. Rai will almost certainly be available at a much bigger price than Scheffler or McIlroy.

That does not reduce what happened at Aronimink.

Rai began his final round three shots behind, made a long eagle putt at the ninth and then continued pulling away. His closing 65 contained some of the best golf played by anyone during the week.

PGA Frisco poses a fresh problem. Rai cannot rely on course memories from his victory, and the added length may favour more powerful players.

He does bring accurate driving, controlled iron play and the confidence that comes from having already finished a major under extreme pressure.

What Happened at the 2026 PGA Championship?

Aronimink created one of the most congested PGA Championship leaderboards in recent memory.

Seven players shared the first-round lead on three under. Thirty-three golfers sat within two shots, while 92 were separated by only five. Nobody had established control before the weekend.

Alex Smalley and Matti Schmid shared the lead after 54 holes. Major champions including Rahm, McIlroy, Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Schauffele remained close enough to challenge.

Rai broke the deadlock.

His rounds of 70, 69, 67 and 65 produced a total of 271. Rahm and Smalley finished on 274, with Thomas, Åberg and Schmid another stroke behind.

It was not a victory built around one lucky bounce or another player collapsing. Rai took the tournament away from a crowded field.

Recent PGA Championship Winners

Five different players have won the last five editions:

  • Aaron Rai won at Aronimink in 2026.
  • Scottie Scheffler won at Quail Hollow in 2025.
  • Xander Schauffele won at Valhalla in 2024.
  • Brooks Koepka claimed his third Wanamaker Trophy at Oak Hill in 2023.
  • Justin Thomas won at Southern Hills in 2022.

That sequence includes established champions and a genuine outsider.

It is also a reminder that this major does not always follow one scoring pattern. Schauffele reached 21 under at Valhalla. Rai won at nine under two years later.

The course decides what kind of championship unfolds.

How Does the PGA Championship Field Work?

The PGA Championship has a maximum field of 156 players.

Unlike the Masters, US Open and The Open, it is an all-professional major. The field contains leading tour players and major champions alongside 20 PGA of America professionals who earn their places through the PGA Professional Championship.

That mix is part of the tournament’s identity.

PGA professionals rarely begin among the outright favourites, but their inclusion has produced memorable stories. Michael Block’s performance in 2023 showed how quickly one of the 20 can become central to the week.

After two rounds, the lowest 70 scores and ties make the cut. Everyone else leaves the tournament before the weekend.

The PGA Championship used match play from its launch in 1916 until 1957. It changed to the current 72-hole stroke-play format in 1958.

Popular US PGA Betting Markets

The outright winner receives most of the attention. It is not the only way to approach the championship.

  • Outright winner: Choose the golfer you think will lift the Wanamaker Trophy after 72 holes and any required play-off.
  • Each-way betting: Split the stake between the player winning and finishing within the stated places. Always check how many places are paid and what fraction of the odds applies.
  • Top-five, top-10 or top-20 finish: Back a golfer to end inside a particular section of the leaderboard.
  • Make or miss the cut: Predict whether the player will survive Friday and finish among the leading 70 scores and ties.
  • First-round leader: Select the golfer who will lead after the opening 18 holes.
  • Head-to-head betting: Back one named player to record a lower round or tournament score than another.
  • Top nationality: Choose the highest-finishing player from a listed country or region.
  • Group betting: Pick the best scorer from a small group rather than the full field.

Market availability and each-way conditions can change as the tournament approaches. Read the wording attached to the individual selection before placing a wager.

The event may also influence Luke Donald and Jim Furyk’s thoughts ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup, which follows later that year at Adare Manor.

What Should You Check Before Betting?

Recent finishes matter. The quality of those performances matters more.

A golfer may arrive with three top-10 results earned on receptive courses where scores reached 20 under. PGA Frisco is likely to ask a different question, especially if the wind becomes a regular factor.

Check approach play from longer distances. A layout beyond 7,800 yards will leave plenty of mid and long irons, even for powerful drivers.

Pay attention to missed-green performance too. Fields Ranch East’s smaller targets should produce awkward recoveries, and nobody will hit every green for four days.

Texas form can offer context without providing a complete answer. Conditions vary between courses, months and tournaments. A good record elsewhere in the state does not automatically make somebody a PGA Frisco specialist.

Finally, make sure an early selection is in the field. Exemptions and invitations will continue to be confirmed before May.
