Wolves’ 2024/25 season was a tale of two halves. The Midlands club struggled under Gary O’Neil in the first half of the campaign, but were mostly excellent under new head coach Vitor Pereira when he arrived just before Christmas.
With several high-profile departures and some exciting arrivals, Wolves fans will hope that they can push on in the 2025/26 season and secure a top-half finish.

Under Gary O’Neil, Wolves lost seven of their first eight matches and looked like the early favourites to go down. Ultimately, O’Neil only won two of 16 matches before being sacked just before Christmas, with experienced Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira replacing him.
The Portuguese won his first two matches to earn some breathing space, but a run of five defeats in six games in the New Year set the alarm bells ringing in the Black Country.
However, Pereira revived Wolves’ season with an exceptional run of six straight victories between March 15 and April 26, securing the club’s Premier League survival. Wolves ended the season with 42 points in sixteenth place, ultimately finishing 17 points clear of Leicester City in eighteenth.
Thanks to the upturn in fortunes under Pereira and some positive performances from Jørgen Strand Larsen, who has been recruited permanently, the Molineux faithful are quietly optimistic that the 2025/26 campaign will be better than last season.
The biggest issue for Wolves is replacing two of their best players who swapped Molineux for Manchester in the summer. Rayan Aït-Nouri now plays for City, while Matheus Cunha is Manchester United’s star man up front.
Wolves must recruit well to replace their outgoing stars and to strengthen their squad depth. If they do, we expect them to strive for a mid-table finish this season.
Wolves were expected to struggle last season, and they were in a relegation dogfight for the campaign's first half. However, the decision to bring in Vitor Pereira before Christmas proved its worth, and Wolves were never really in danger of going down in the second half of the season.
But will Wolves be dragged into another relegation dogfight in 2025/26? It’s possible, but the club will be looking upwards, and they did some great business in the summer transfer window, despite losing their best two players.
We expect Wolves to have too much for Sunderland, Leeds United, and Burnley, who are the main three relegation candidates this season. That said, if the club starts as poorly as they did last season, it could be another long season at Molineux, with yet another managerial change.
Wolves have finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table in four of the last five seasons. Their best finish in the last five years was tenth in the 2021/22 campaign.
Looking slightly further back, Wolves managed consecutive seventh-placed finishes in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons after winning the EFL Championship.
In some respects, these top seven finishes spoiled their fans, as many now demand a return to the top of the Premier League.
Still, if you’re looking for a decent bet on Wolves this season, we recommend a bottom-half finish wager. While we think Wolves have enough to avoid relegation, we can’t see them pushing into the top ten in the 2025/26 season.
Wolves made it to the FA Cup fifth round last season, losing to Bournemouth on penalties. Most Wolves fans would agree that a cup run isn’t on the club’s list of priorities, but given Crystal Palace’s FA Cup heroics in 2024/25, there’s no reason why Wolves can’t go deep into the cup this year.
You can also bet on Wolves to win the EFL Cup at Parimatch, though they will have to do much better than their third-round exit last season.
At the end of the 2024/25 season, Molineux was likely to experience significant upheaval, with several incomings and outgoings.
Matheus Cunha secured a £62.5 million move to Manchester United, while Rayan Aït-Nouri moved to Manchester City for £31 million. This secured Wolves just short of £100 million in transfer fees, which the club invested back into the playing squad.
Popular striker Jørgen Strand Larsen moved to Molineux permanently in a £25 million deal, after the Norway international scored 14 league goals on loan last season. Attacking midfielder Fer López also joined Wolves in a £20+ million deal from Celta Vigo, signifying the club’s intent to strengthen their attacking positions.
Here’s an overview of the main incomings and outgoings at Molineux in recent times:
