There always seems to be another Tyson Fury chapter. Düsseldorf brought his first world-title triumph; several lost years followed; Deontay Wilder drew him back towards the summit. Even 24 rounds with Oleksandr Usyk and yet another retirement announcement did not close the book.

His latest return has brought two more victories and, at last, a signed route towards Anthony Joshua. That makes the next chapter easy to sell but much harder to price. Fury remains an awkward 6ft 9in heavyweight with a huge reach and an ability to switch stance. He is also approaching another major fight after a mixed few years in which Usyk beat him twice.

Boxing was the family trade, and Fury joined the paid ranks in 2008. British, Commonwealth and European honours came first. The night which altered his place in the sport arrived in November 2015, away from home and against a champion few expected him to unseat.

Wladimir Klitschko entered Düsseldorf with an unbeaten run stretching beyond 11 years. Yet he never found a comfortable picture: Fury moved, feinted, switched the view and took a unanimous decision. With it came the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight belts.

The poster still has two blank spaces. November is the working target, but the organisers have named neither a day nor a venue; Britain and the United States have both entered the conversation. Nobody should mistake Wach for a world-title examination. Its purpose was activity, and Fury got seven rounds of it only three months after his previous outing. He also emerged without the injury or upset which could have derailed Joshua.

Before the Thailand detour came the proper comeback. Fury had not boxed since losing the Usyk rematch in December 2024 and announced his retirement the following month. By 11 April 2026 he was back, this time with Arslanbek Makhmudov across the ring.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium provided a familiar scale. Fury largely dictated the 12 rounds and collected a unanimous decision, beginning this run with control rather than fireworks.

Makhmudov and Wach served different purposes: one carried a stadium comeback to the cards, the other put rounds in the bank away from the glare. Together they have restored activity. What neither can tell us is how Fury responds when Joshua replaces them.

At first glance, it is movement against power. Fury can change stance, work behind his reach and turn an orthodox heavyweight contest into something shapeless. Joshua prefers a firmer base from which to send the straight right hand and short combinations.

Neither man stays neatly inside that description. Fury became the aggressor against Wilder; Joshua once regained his titles by refusing a reckless exchange with Andy Ruiz Jr. Nor are the warning signs difficult to find. Usyk's speed and accuracy troubled Fury, while Kristian Prenga dropped Joshua twice before AJ recovered to win in round two.

Fury arrived for the first Usyk fight with his unbeaten record and WBC belt intact. Their 18 May 2024 meeting in Riyadh would crown one undisputed heavyweight champion. Seven months later, the rematch returned to the same city. This time all three judges scored it 116-112 for Oleksandr Usyk, leaving Fury with a second defeat and no argument preserved by an unbeaten record.

They show that he can compete across 12 rounds with the leading heavyweight of the era, while also revealing that elite movement and timing can disrupt his own rhythm. A third fight may attract interest in future, but it is Joshua rather than Usyk who currently sits on Fury's signed path.

Nothing in Fury's career is replayed more often than the last round of Wilder I. Knocked heavily to the canvas in Los Angeles in December 2018, he somehow rose and finished a contest later scored as a split draw.

The February 2020 rematch bore little resemblance to it. Fury denied Wilder the room to set his right hand, marched forward and took the WBC title after seven rounds. Fight three, held in October 2021, abandoned order altogether. Both heavyweights hit the floor; Fury found the ending in the 11th.

Derek Chisora supplies a timeline through a different part of the story. Points settled their 2011 fight, a corner retirement ended the 2014 rematch and the referee intervened in round ten of their December 2022 trilogy. Fury won all three, first as a domestic contender and finally as WBC champion.
