How many types of forecast betting are there?

There can be a straight or a reverse forecast. These can be single, double or treble bets.

What is a Straight Forecast?

A Straight Forecast bet allows you to select two runners where you are predicting which will finish 1st and which will finish 2nd. The Straight Forecast result is also the name of the value paid out per pound staked following the results of a race.

What is a Reverse Forecast?

A Reverse Forecast bet allows you to select two runners from the same event to finish 1st and 2nd in any order to generate a return.

How many bets in a straight and reverse forecast?

There is 1 Single Bet in a straight forecast and there are 2 Single Bets in a Reverse Forecast

How Does a Straight Forecast work?

Upon the completion of a race, a straight forecast dividend will be provided (see the BetVictor Results Feed for past races). Multiply the straight forecast dividend by the stake to provide the return.

How does a Reverse Forecast bet work?

The Reverse Forecast is a bet on two runners finishing 1st and 2nd in one half and the reverse in the second half of the bet. It is effectively two straight forecasts with opposing predicted results meaning the stake is double compared to a Straight Forecast.

How Does a Double or Treble Reverse Forecast work?

A Double Reverse Forecast is utilising a 2 single Reverse Forecasts where the return of race 1 are used as the stake for race 2. A Treble Reverse Forecast simply uses the return of race 2 as the stake for race 3.

How to Use the Forecast Bet Calculator

At Parimatch Sportsbook, we like to make placing bets as simple as possible. Our betting calculator is ideal for working out exotic wagers, including forecast bets, trifectas, and Goliath bets.

The bet calculator is easy to use and available to all customers. You can use it to calculate your potential returns ahead of horse or greyhound races, and it’s a great way to decide which bets to place.

Read on to learn how to use our forecast bet calculator and what else you need to know about this type of wager.

What is a Forecast Bet?

A forecast bet is a popular wager where you predict the team, horse, dog, or player to finish first and second. To win a forecast, you need to accurately predict the winner and second-place finisher, and your predictions must be in the correct order.

Though you can place a forecast bet on numerous sports, it’s most popular in racing betting, including horse racing, greyhound racing, and motorsports racing.

For example, assuming you want to bet on the 13.10 at Wolverhampton, a forecast bet might look like this:

  • 1st = David’s Daydream 9/4
  • 2nd = Quintessential Angel 12/1

For your forecast bet to win, David’s Daydream would have to win the race, while Quintessential Angel would have to come in second. As mentioned, the order is important in a forecast bet. If Quintessential Angel were to pip David’s Daydream at the post, you would lose your bet, as your first and second-place predictions would be in the wrong order.

It's also possible to place a double forecast bet, which you can bring together to increase your potential payout if your bet is successful.

Different Types of Forecast Bets

There are three main types of forecast bets:

  • Straight forecast: This is one bet on the horse/dog/person to win and the horse/dog/person to finish second. You must correctly predict the order.
  • Reverse forecast: In a reverse forecast, you place two bets on the selections you think will finish first and second, but in any order. It costs double the stake to place.
  • Combination forecast: A combination forecast consists of at least three selections on the horse/dog/person you think will finish first and second. You don’t need to get the order right to win a combination forecast, but at least two of your selections must finish in the top two.

Also popular among horse racing bettors and greyhound punters is the trifecta bet. Here, you need to bet on the horses to finish first, second, and third in the exact order, taking the forecast bet to the next level.
