Four places are guaranteed. Rather more than four clubs believe they belong there.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea currently lead the Premier League top four odds at Parimatch. Your chosen club must finish first, second, third or fourth. It does not need to win the title, and its results in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup or Europe have no direct effect on the wager.

Suppose you back Liverpool for a top-four finish. The bet succeeds if Liverpool end the campaign fourth. It loses if they place fifth, even if fifth later receives an additional Champions League position.

That distinction matters.

A Premier League top-four bet always requires a finish inside the first four. A top-five bet includes fifth place, while a Champions League qualification market may account for additional routes into the tournament. Read the heading before confirming a selection rather than assuming the markets are interchangeable.

Not automatically.

The Premier League’s top four clubs receive guaranteed places in the following season’s Champions League league phase. UEFA then awards one extra league position to each of the two countries whose clubs achieve the strongest collective performance across that season’s European competitions. This is known as a European Performance Spot.

England earned one for 2026/27. Liverpool therefore qualified for the Champions League after finishing fifth in the 2025/26 Premier League table, joining Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa.

That does not guarantee another fifth-place spot at the end of 2026/27.

England must again finish among UEFA’s two highest-performing associations during the current European campaign. Until enough Champions League, Europa League and Conference League matches have been played, nobody can say with certainty whether fifth will qualify.

For a top-four wager, none of that changes the settlement. Fifth is still fifth.

Arsenal

Arsenal finally turned years of near misses into a title.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished first with 85 points in 2025/26, ending a 22-year wait to become Premier League champions. They also conceded only 27 goals, the strongest defensive record in the division.

That consistency explains why Arsenal begin as the shortest-priced top-four selection. A club expected to challenge for the title should, in theory, have considerable room between itself and fifth place.

There is still work involved. The champions must balance their defence of the league with another Champions League campaign, and last season showed how demanding both competitions can become during spring.

Manchester City

Manchester City finished second with 78 points and scored a league-high 77 goals. They were comfortably inside the top four, but seven points short of Arsenal.

The squad remains powerful. The unfamiliar part is the manager.

Enzo Maresca has replaced Pep Guardiola, bringing Guardiola’s ten-year reign to an end. Maresca previously worked at City and is familiar with the club’s possession-based approach, yet taking full responsibility is a different challenge.

City do not need to win the league for a top-four bet to land. Their depth and recent record make them one of the market leaders, even with a period of adjustment likely.

Liverpool

Liverpool slipped from champions in 2024/25 to fifth place a year later.

They finished on 60 points, five behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, but still reached the 2026/27 Champions League through England’s European Performance Spot.

A new era has now begun at Anfield. Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot during the summer after leading Bournemouth into Europe. His teams play with aggression and intensity, although Liverpool’s players must adapt to another coach following only two seasons under Slot.

The early market expects a recovery. Liverpool are currently shorter than Manchester United despite finishing two places and 11 points behind them last season.

Manchester United

Michael Carrick took charge in January and guided Manchester United to third place with 71 points. That successful spell earned him the job permanently.

Third represented a sharp improvement after several unstable seasons. United scored 69 league goals, although conceding 50 left them with a considerably weaker defensive record than Arsenal or Manchester City.

Carrick now has to show that the rise was not merely a short-term response to changing managers. A full pre-season should help him develop the side, but expectations will be much higher from the opening weekend.

Chelsea

Chelsea are the outlier among the five shortest-priced clubs.

They finished 10th in 2025/26 with 52 points, thirteen behind the top four. Newcastle, Brighton, Sunderland and Bournemouth all placed above them.

The market is clearly expecting a different Chelsea this time. Xabi Alonso became head coach in July after previous spells with Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid. His Leverkusen team famously completed an unbeaten domestic double in 2023/24.

Chelsea’s squad contains plenty of talent, but a top-four finish would require a substantial jump. The new manager must quickly find a settled side and turn a large collection of options into consistent league results.

Other Premier League Top-Four Contenders

Aston Villa are entitled to feel slightly overlooked.

Unai Emery’s team finished fourth last season and also won the Europa League. Villa have now qualified for the Champions League in two of the last three campaigns under Emery, yet they sit behind Chelsea in the early top-four market.

Tottenham are priced close to Villa despite finishing 17th in 2025/26. Roberto De Zerbi took charge after helping Spurs avoid relegation on the final day. Their price reflects the quality expected within the squad rather than anything achieved in the previous league campaign.

Newcastle begin further down the betting after finishing 12th. Sunderland, Brighton and Bournemouth all placed higher last season, which shows why the race cannot be reduced to the traditional biggest clubs before a ball has been kicked.

One defeat will not ruin a 38-game campaign. A pattern might.

Squad depth becomes increasingly important once league, domestic cup and European fixtures begin to overlap. A club may have an excellent starting XI but struggle when two defenders and a central midfielder are missing at the same time.

Managerial changes add uncertainty. Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all enter 2026/27 under new head coaches. Their squads may improve under fresh ideas, but early mistakes are possible while roles and systems settle.

Goals against direct rivals can have a double effect. Winning at home to another top-four contender earns three points while denying that opponent the same opportunity.

The fixture list also needs context. Arsenal begin against promoted Coventry City before facing Aston Villa and Chelsea in their next two league matches. A difficult opening does not decide the season, though it can shape the early odds.

January transfers, injuries and progress in Europe will move the market again. Look at the gap between clubs rather than reacting only to league position. Fourth and eighth can be separated by very little during the first half of a season.
