The Championship top scorer race is rarely straightforward. Joël Piroe won the 2024/25 Golden Boot with 19 goals, then Zan Vipotnik raised the winning total to 23 a year later. Now another field of proven forwards and new arrivals is chasing the award in 2026/27.
Raúl Jiménez and Jarrod Bowen sit at the front of the early Championship top goalscorer odds at Parimatch. Championship Top Goalscorer Betting
A Championship top scorer bet is an outright wager on the player who finishes the regular league season with the most goals.
It is different from backing somebody to score in their next match. The wager runs across the campaign, which means goals scored during August count towards the same total as those netted during the promotion race in April.
Parimatch currently lists the 2026/27 Championship top goalscorer market with each-way terms of one quarter of the odds for four places. An each-way bet is split into two parts: one on the player to win the Golden Boot and one on them to finish inside the listed places. The Championship season begins over the weekend of 14 to 16 August 2026 and ends on 1 May 2027. That leaves the leading forwards with 46 league fixtures in which to build their totals.
Championship Top Scorer Favourites for 2026/27
The early market has an unusual look to it.
Two established Premier League attackers lead the betting. A highly rated young striker has just moved to Middlesbrough. Last season’s Golden Boot winner remains at Swansea and is attempting something nobody has managed for nearly two decades.
Those names deserve attention. None comes without a question, though.
Raúl Jiménez
Raúl Jiménez is back at Wolves and will wear the number nine shirt for a second spell at Molineux.
The Mexican scored 57 goals in 166 appearances during his first period with the club, before adding another 31 across three seasons at Fulham. He returns on a two-year contract and is expected to play a central role in Wolves’ attempt to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
This will be Jiménez’s first season in the Championship. He turns 36 during the campaign, and the division’s schedule can be unforgiving, particularly around Christmas. Wolves also have Adam Armstrong among their other attacking options.
Even so, Jiménez brings years of top-flight experience, strong penalty-box movement and a reliable record from the spot. He also scored during Mexico’s run at the 2026 World Cup before returning to pre-season training.
Jarrod Bowen
Jarrod Bowen is not a traditional centre-forward, which makes his position near the top of the market interesting.
West Ham’s captain scored or assisted 20 of the club’s 46 Premier League goals in 2025/26. He then committed his future to the Hammers’ promotion push rather than leaving after relegation.
Bowen knows the Championship well. Before joining West Ham, he scored 52 goals in 117 league appearances for Hull City, often playing from the right rather than through the middle.
His position will matter. If Bowen spends long periods centrally or is given penalty duties, he may receive more clear chances. Should he remain predominantly on the wing, Taty Castellanos and West Ham’s other forwards could take a larger share of the goals.
Taty Castellanos
Taty Castellanos joined West Ham from Lazio in January 2026 and scored against Leeds United on the final day of the Premier League season.
The Argentinian has previously won the MLS Golden Boot and has experience in Spain and Italy. This will be his first full campaign in England and his first taste of Championship football.
West Ham should create chances if they live up to their promotion billing. The larger question is how those chances will be divided. Bowen, Castellanos and the other forwards cannot all operate as the main scorer every week, and the hierarchy may not become clear until the season is underway.
Will Lankshear
Middlesbrough have made a sizeable investment in Will Lankshear following his season on loan with Oxford United.
The 21-year-old scored 11 Championship goals in 44 league appearances during 2025/26. Those numbers came in a relegated side, which helps explain the excitement around what he might produce in a stronger attacking team.
Lankshear is still developing, and Middlesbrough have other forwards who can lead the line. He does, however, understand the division already. There should be no surprise when matches arrive in quick succession or opposing defenders turn the game into a physical battle.
Boro have handed him a five-year contract, showing how central they expect him to be to their plans.
Zan Vipotnik
The defending champion cannot be ignored.
Zan Vipotnik finished 2025/26 with 23 league goals for Swansea City, six clear of his nearest challenger heading into the final weekend. He also shared the first EFL Red Boot award after finishing level as the leading scorer across all three EFL divisions.
Swansea rewarded him with a new contract running until 2030. That matters because a summer transfer looked possible once his goals began attracting interest from elsewhere.
Repeating the achievement will be difficult. The last player to win consecutive Championship Golden Boots was Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in 2007/08 and 2008/09. Vipotnik also starts this season as a marked man rather than an unexpected contender.
Still, there is less guesswork involved than with some of his rivals. Swansea know how to create chances for him, he is settled at the club and his 2025/26 total was built across an entire campaign rather than one brief scoring run.
Other Players to Watch
Jay Stansfield remains one of Birmingham City’s main goal threats. Morgan Whittaker gives Middlesbrough another route to goal, while Mohamed Touré ended last season strongly after joining Norwich City.
The list will not remain fixed. The transfer window stays open until 1 September, and one late signing or departure can alter both a club’s attack and the Championship Golden Boot odds.
What Can Affect the Championship Golden Boot Race?
Last season’s goal total is useful. It should not decide the bet on its own.
Start with minutes. A striker cannot win the Golden Boot from the bench, however impressive their scoring rate may look. New signings may need time to establish themselves, particularly when joining a squad with several forwards competing for the same place.
Penalties can swing a close race. So can set pieces, tactical changes and injuries to a club’s main creator.
The strength of the team matters as well. Forwards playing for promotion contenders will usually receive more chances, although Vipotnik showed that the winner does not always have to represent one of the division’s strongest clubs.
Transfers are another risk. A move to the Premier League or overseas could end a player’s Championship challenge halfway through the season. At the other end of the scale, a January arrival may simply join too late to catch the leaders.
Then there is form. Goals arrive in runs. A four-game drought in October is inconvenient, not fatal.
Previous Championship Top Scorers
Vipotnik became the second winner in a row to take the award without reaching 25 goals. Before that, the Championship produced several much larger totals, including Aleksandar Mitrović’s record-breaking 43 for Fulham in 2021/22.
The 2019/20 award was shared after Mitrović and Watkins finished level. A tie is unusual, but possible, which is why bettors should read the settlement rules shown with the market.
All-Time Championship Top Goalscorers
Billy Sharp remains the leading goalscorer of the modern Championship era with 130.
Jordan Rhodes is second on 123, followed by David Nugent with 121 and Ross McCormack with 120. Sharp’s total was spread across six clubs, with most of his Championship goals coming for Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers.
Those are career totals. The single-season record belongs to Mitrović, whose 43 goals for Fulham in 2021/22 could stand for some time.
