Super Bowl and NFL Play-Offs Betting

The first Super Bowl style game took place over 50 years ago in 1966, although it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. In the 60s, professional American Football had two rival leagues, the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). It was decided that the winner of each league should play each other in that first 1966 AFL-NFL World Championship Game to see who the true champion of American football was.

The two leagues were merged into one group of owners from 1966, but they kept the separate AFL and NFL structure, with the winner of each league meeting again in an end-of-season final. The Super Bowl was proposed to replace the AFL-NFL World Championship, with Super Bowl I taking place in 1967. The NFL’s Green Bay Packers beat the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs 35 to 10.

The Super Bowl has taken place every year since 1967. The most successful teams in the competition are the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have both won six Super Bowls. The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have both won five.

At Parimatch we offer you NFL Winner Betting markets for each of these stages, for division winners, conference play-off winners, and the Super Bowl winner, all with great value NFL American Football Odds. You’ll find everything you need to bet on bet on the NFL with Parimatch.

NFL Teams & Schedule

American Football isn’t divided into tiered leagues like many other sports, so there’s no relegation or promotion. Instead, the 32 professional American football teams are split into the historic NFL and AFL leagues, now called the National Football Conference (NFC) and American Football Conference (AFC).

The two conferences are further split into four East, North, South, and West divisions. So that’s 16 teams per conference, four teams per division. And there’s all your favourite sides from the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

In the regular part of each season, every team plays the other three teams in their division at home and away in a league system, and also plays another 10 games against rotating teams from both their conference and the other conference (16 games in total per team, per season).

At the end of the regular season, six teams from each conference enter the post-season play-offs. The top team in each division enter the play-offs automatically, plus two wild-card second-place teams from each conference. The teams then play a three-stage knockout round to win their conference, with the top two teams from each conference facing off in the Super Bowl.

With so many encounters across the season that just means plenty of chance to bet on the NFL with us at Parimatch.
