British horse racing fans flock to Chichester at the end of July for Glorious Goodwood, a five-day racing festival with millions of pounds in prize money up for grabs.
Several Group One races, including the Sussex Stakes, Nassau Stakes, and Goodwood Cup, take centre stage, but a full card of races each day draws the fans.
You can bet on every race at Glorious Goodwood at Parimatch Sportsbook, the home of horse racing in the United Kingdom.
Glorious Goodwood is a major horse racing festival, officially known as the Qatar Goodwood Festival for sponsorship reasons. There are five days of racing at the end of July and the start of August, with vast prize pools and drama guaranteed.
The top races are the Sussex Stakes, Goodwood Cup, and Nassau Stakes, but each day hosts a top-tier race with some of the most talented runners in the world of horse racing.
The 2025 Glorious Goodwood Festival begins on Tuesday, 29th July and ends on Saturday, 2nd August. Each day is packed with spectators and racing enthusiasts, who enjoy one of the most sociable horse racing meets on the British calendar. Here’s an overview of the main races on each day of Glorious Goodwood this year:
Date | Day | Main Race |
Tuesday 29th July 2025 | Goodwood Cup Day | Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup |
Wednesday 30th July 2025 | Sussex Stakes Day | The Qatar Sussex Stakes |
Thursday 31st July 2025 | Ladies’ Day | Qatar Nassau Stakes |
Friday 1st August 2025 | King George Day | King George Qatar Stakes |
Saturday 2nd August 2025 | Stewards’ Cup Day | The Coral Stewards’ Cup |
This Group One flat race is the main event on day one of the festival, open to horses aged three and above across two miles. It’s also the second leg of the Stayers’ Triple Crown, and was won by Kyprios under Ryan Moore in 2024, his second win in three years.
Nineteen runners will compete in the 2025 Goodwood Cup, including Jan Brueghel and Illinois for AP O’Brien, who are among the favourites in the ante-post market.
All eyes on day two of Glorious Goodwood will be on the Qatar Sussex Stakes, another Group One flat race at the festival. This time, the distance is just one mile, and it’s currently open to three-year-olds and up. The purse is £1,000,000 for the Sussex Stakes in 2025, with £567,100 going to the winner.
William Buick rode Notable Speech to victory in the 2024 Sussex Stakes for Charlie Appleby’s first triumph in this historic race. Field of Gold, Rosallion, and Henri Matisse are among the ante-post favourites for the 2025 Sussex Stakes.
Open to fillies and mares three years and older, the Nassau Stakes is run over one mile and one furlong, and is one of the oldest races in the UK, established in 1840. Opera Singer under Ryan Moore won the Nassau Stakes for Aidan O’Brien in 2024, the jockey’s fourth win in this historic chase.
AP O’Brien’s Whirl and Bedtime Story look good ahead of the 2025 meet, as does See the Fire from the Andrew Balding stable.
The Group Two King George Qatar Stakes is scheduled for day four of Glorious Goodwood, with a £300,000 purse up for grabs. Battaash under Jim Crowley famously won this race four years on the trot between 2017 and 2020, but there have been different winners each year since then, with Bjg Evs for Michael Appleby triumphing last year.
Henry Dwyer’s Asfoora is among the ante-post favourites of this year's entrants, while Frost at Dawn and Mgheera are also fancied.
The last big race of the Goodwood Festival is the Stewards’ Cup, a handicap flat race for three-year-olds and up. No horse has won the Stewards’ Cup more than twice, with Commanche Falls the last runner to achieve this feat with back-to-back triumphs in 2021 and 2022. Pat Cosgrave rode Get it to victory in the 2024 race.
You can bet on this year’s Stewards’ Cup at Parimatch, with Quinault, Rogue Lightning, and Art Power leading the way in the ante-post betting market.
