It’s nearly time to scrum down for the excitement of the 2024 Six Nations. With the 2023 Rugby World Cup now a distant memory, attentions quickly turn to the next winner of the Six Nations Championship Trophy and a possible Grand Slam.

Potential Six Nations betting angles to consider
Parimatch has a whole range of Six Nations odds so let’s look at some of them below and consider some of the Six Nations favourites.
England’s odds to win the Six Nations look like good value considering their early round of fixtures
At the time of writing, England are priced at 6/1* to win the 2024 Six Nations. Those odds could shorten significantly by the end of round two if the history books are to be believed.
England’s opening Six Nations game is away to Italy, who remain the most unlikely team to win this year’s Six Nations. England have won all their 12 previous Six Nations meetings with Italy in Rome, which suggests Steve Borthwick’s team are highly likely to get off to a positive start on 3rd February.
Looking ahead to round two, England return to Twickenham to face a Wales side that’s nowhere near at its best. In fact, England have won their last five successive Six Nations meetings with the Welsh at Twickenham. Therefore, it’s very likely that England could sit top of the Six Nations table after the opening two games, building some real momentum ahead of their round three meeting at Scotland for the Calcutta Cup.
The absence of Antoine Dupont may hit France harder than they think
France captain Antoine Dupont will miss the upcoming Six Nations. The 27-year-old has opted to enter his country’s Sevens programme in a bid to be part of the French Sevens team at the Paris Olympics.
France are currently strong favourites to win this year’s Six Nations, priced at 6/5* before a ball has even been kicked. Some may feel like the loss of the darling of French rugby, Dupont, may have seen their odds lengthen. Defeat to Ireland in round one would surely see their odds drift out considerably.
Scotland could be the dark horse of the 2024 Six Nations
Although Scotland failed to qualify out of their 2023 World Cup group, there’s still heaps of positivity surrounding the Scottish rugby union team right now. They remain one of the hardest-working teams in the Northern Hemisphere right now, with an exceptional fighting spirit.
Their recent form has also been very competitive. In August 2023, Scotland only narrowly lost by three points in France before avenging that loss with a 25-21 victory over the French at Murrayfield. Their home form will determine their 2024 Six Nations fate, and although they may not have enough to win the tournament outright, there’s every chance they can compete for second place. Their odds of winning the Six Nations are only narrowly higher than England’s at present (10/1)*.
France v Ireland in Round 1 could set the tone for both teams in the 2024 Six Nations
If you’re thinking of betting on France or Ireland to win the Grand Slam, the outcome of their head-to-head battle in round one will determine this bet from the outset. If the Irish emerge victorious from their encounter at the Stade de France, there’s every chance their current 7/2* Grand Slam odds could look like very good value indeed.
Could Wales be in danger of battling for the ‘Wooden Spoon’?
At Parimatch, we also have a market to bet on the team to finish bottom of the 2024 Six Nations and earn the unwanted ‘Wooden Spoon’ tag. Italy are the odds-on favourites for this mantle at 1/3*, but the weakened Welsh side could also stare down the barrel of finishing last this year. They are currently second favourites at 9/2*, shorter than the likes of Scotland (7/1*) and England (14/1*).
Injury to prop, Adam Jones, who skippered Wales during last year’s Rugby World Cup, means he will miss the Six Nations. Co-captain Dewi Lake has also been omitted from Warren Gatland’s squad, leaving a big void to be filled.
