With so much of the F1 season yet to unfold, there’s a lot at stake as we approach the 2024 edition of the Spanish Grand Prix. Tucked away on the outskirts of metropolitan Barcelona is the world-renowned Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the municipality of Montmeló.

So, who’s going to cross the finishing line first this year? Parimatch is here to help you understand the Spanish Grand Prix odds and markets, like who will come out on top and who can challenge to make it to the podium.

Who is Favoured to Win the Spanish Grand Prix?

Max Verstappen has started this season in stunning form, winning six of the calendar’s first nine races, so he’s the unsurprising favourite to win the Spanish Grand Prix. Frankly, unless there are issues with his car or health, he will likely be the favourite for every race this season, such is his current dominance of the sport.

However, anything can happen throughout a Formula One race weekend, with the drama of final qualifying determining who gets pole position to give them and their team the best chance of success.

It will be hard to see anybody else winning if Red Bull’s Verstappen leads the pack from the start. Still, the other drivers, teams and fans with affiliations elsewhere will watch his early weekend performance to see if there are any slip-ups.

The Parimatch F1 odds of Max Verstappen winning the Spanish Grand Prix are 1/2*. Considering 20 drivers compete on the track, these odds illustrate the world champion’s superiority.

Race Info

The F1 calendar frequently changes the locations of races, but the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been a mainstay for some time. Sadly, the Spanish Grand Prix will move closer to the capital, Madrid, in 2026, so emotions will be running high for the last few editions of the event in its current home in north-east Spain.

When is the Spanish Grand Prix?

The race will take place on Sunday, June 23rd, this year, and is scheduled to start at 3 pm local time (2 pm BST). Like every other Formula 1 race, there’s a packed schedule before the main event, including practice, qualifying, and the Formula 2 and Formula 3 races.

Who Won Last Year?

Max Verstappen won at a canter at last year’s Spanish Grand Prix, handsomely beating Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton by over 24 seconds. As has been so familiar over the past year and a half, the Dutchman secured pole position, edging out Carlos Sainz and looked comfortable throughout the main race.

Other Leading Contenders

There’s still hope for the other competitors, even if Verstappen is tipped to win the Spanish Grand Prix and, ultimately, the F1 Drivers’ Championship. But the rest of the pack won’t concede just yet. Let’s see who else can stake a claim to take the chequered flag on June 23rd.

Lando Norris, McLaren

Making it to the podium five times in nine races and winning a race this season is no mean feat, considering Verstappen’s imperious form. At 5/1* odds, Lando Norris will want to avenge last season’s showing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, when his car clipped Lewis Hamilton and forced him to pit early. At that point, he was too far behind the leaders, making it nearly impossible for him to challenge for a podium spot. If Norris has no early drama this time, then who knows?

Charles LeClerc, Ferrari

Winning the coveted Monaco Grand Prix as a Monte Carlo native, no less, is a brilliant achievement. His form has been strong all season, and he regularly features on the podium. At 8/1 to become the outright winner of the Spanish Grand Prix, the Monégasque man might need help from his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz, but the Spaniard might have personal ambitions of winning too if his team allows it, given the Italian team will have an eye on the F1 Constructors’ Championship this season.

Our Spanish Grand Prix Picks

Selecting Max Verstappen at 1/2* as the outright winner seems the most logical choice, given his form and track record here in Catalonia. His capabilities are immense, and his form shows no sign of dropping in what could be a record-breaking season for the Red Bull driver. At Parimatch, we expect the Dutchman to cross the line first yet again, barring any technical issues.

On the other hand, you might be tempted with an each-way bet on another driver on the list. Charles LeClerc at 8/1* is an exciting price, considering how often he makes it to the podium and his impressive recent win at Monaco. ⅓ of your odds will be paid out if you opt for LeClerc as an each-way selection and he finishes in 2nd place.

We don’t believe Sergio Pérez will win this race unless Verstappen has to retire early. However, he has already finished 2nd in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Japan this season, plus grabbed a 3rd place finish in China. He may make the podium again, perhaps in the 2nd spot, and at 16/1* odds, an each-way bet could prove a savvy choice.
