23rd June 2024, Frankfurt 20:00 GMT
In the third and final round of matches in Group A, the two strongest teams battle at the Deutsche Bank Arena. In an ideal world, both teams would already have positive results against Scotland and Hungary, and this contest could, therefore, be something of a dead rubber.
However, either side may need a big result in Frankfurt to secure their place in the knockout stages. In our Switzerland v Germany preview, we assess the key men to watch and provide some data to support your Euro 2024 betting strategy.
Group A: Switzerland, Germany, Scotland, Hungary.
Switzerland v Germany Betting Tips
It’s nearly time to submit your pre-match bet slips ahead of Switzerland and Germany’s third and final group game in Group A. Before you do, let’s run through some data that could steer your betting decisions.
Switzerland vs Germany Correct Score Tips & Prediction
- Seven of Germany’s previous 11 competitive fixtures have ended with over 2.5 goals scored in the game.
- Germany have won 35 out of their 52 competitive meetings with Switzerland.
- Switzerland have scored just three goals in their last five competitive games.
This Fixture in History
This clash is one of the most storied in international football history. Since April 1908, the two teams have locked horns 52 times in competitive games. They’ve faced each other four times in FIFA World Cups, with Germany winning twice, Switzerland winning once, and one game ending in a stalemate.
They’ve never been drawn against one another in a European Championships. That ends this summer, with the two teams in Group A. It’s been 16 years since Germany last got the upper hand over the Swiss, which may cause a few nerves in the mass ranks of German fans in Frankfurt.
In 2020, the teams played twice as part of the UEFA Nations League. Both encounters ended in a draw, with their most recent finishing in an end-to-end 3-3 stalemate. Switzerland raced into a two-goal lead before Germany levelled.
The Swiss regrouped to gain the lead, with Mario Gavranovic bagging his brace, but Serge Gnabry responded just three minutes later, as the Germans showed great resolve to avoid defeat.
Switzerland Man to Watch: Granit Xhaka
It’s fair to say that Xhaka’s career has had something of an upward trajectory in the last 12 months. After making 225 appearances for Arsenal and often being derided as a weak link in the Gunners’ midfield, Xhaka moved to German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
Since then, Xhaka has been the beating heart of a Leverkusen side that was crowned champions of Germany – without losing a single game. Xhaka’s bite and tenacity will be crucial at the base of Switzerland’s midfield this summer.
Germany Man to Watch: Kai Havertz
Speaking of reborn players, Kai Havertz appears to have regained his confidence in a big way. Since leaving Chelsea for Arsenal last summer, Havertz has started to blossom at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 13 in 37 games.
His recent international appearances have been encouraging, too, scoring in the 2-0 friendly victory over France in March. He’s increasingly likely to lead the line as Germany’s false nine at Euro 2024.
