UFC Fight Night 255 Preview: What’s at Stake in London?
There are several big matchups at UFC Fight Night 255. Below, we look at three of the biggest fights and consider who is likely to come out on top in London:
Edwards v Brady
All eyes will be on Leon Edwards as he looks to recover the welterweight belt he lost to Belal Muhammed last July. If he’s to have another shot at the title, the British fighter will need to defeat the excellent Brady, who has only suffered one defeat in his professional career.
Brady has stepped in to replace Jack Della Maddalena, originally scheduled as Edwards’ opponent. Brady currently sits fifth in the welterweight rankings, and he was extremely impressive the last time he was out. He defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC Fight Night 242 in September 2024, winning by unanimous decision.
This welterweight clash is almost too close to call, with both men looking at it as a stepping stone towards a title shot. Edwards will be roared on by a vociferous home crowd in London, which might just give him the edge.
Blachowicz v Ulberg
The light heavyweight pairing of Jan Blachowicz and Carlos Ulberg has also raised the excitement levels ahead of UFC Fight Night 255. Blachowicz sits at number three in his weight division, and he is the former light heavyweight UFC champion, only the second Polish fighter ever to win a title in the promotion.
Since his title win against Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, Blachowicz’s career has been up and down, and he has been forced to withdraw from a few high-profile bouts due to injury.
His most recent appearance in the Octagon was at UFC 291, where he narrowly lost to former middleweight champion Alex Pereira in one of the closest UFC bouts in memory.
His opponent, Carlos Ulberg, is a Kiwi star with an impressive record of 11-1 since switching from kickboxing to MMA. He made his UFC bow in March 2021 at UFC 259, losing to Kennedy Nzechukwu before going on a ten-fight winning streak.
Ulberg was dominant in his most recent UFC appearance, defeating Volkan Oezdemir by unanimous decision in November 2024 at UFC Fight Night 248.
McCann v Nunes
Fan favourite Molly “Meatball” McCann will be keenly supported at the O2 Arena. The Liverpool native is an aggressive fighter who has featured in the UFC since 2018 and she’s a close friend of fellow UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett.
Since returning to the promotion on an eight-fight contract, McCann has lost three of her four fights, the most recent coming against Bruna Brasil at UFC 304.
She will fancy her chances against Istela Nunes, who has a 6-5 record in the promotion.
