UFC 311 Preview: Makhachev v Tsarukyan 2
Makhachev has long been on a mission to show the world he’s the greatest UFC fighter of all time, and as he currently sits atop the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, his fight against Tsarukyan is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
The pair last met five years ago in St Petersburg, Russia. Makhachev defeated his Armenian challenger that day, winning by unanimous decision in what was only his seventh fight in the UFC promotion.
Though Makhachev claims that his fight against Volkanovski was the toughest of his career, he admits that Tsarukyan was a formidable opponent. The Armenian will likely put on another gritty display when the two meet for the second time.
We’re also in for a treat within the bantamweight division as the undefeated Nurmagomedov challenges Dvalishvili for his belt. The two have been exchanging barbs in the lead-up to this one, with Dvalishvili branding his challenger “a spoiled little baby”. It will only add to the allure as these two meet in the Octagon for the first time.
Elsewhere on the card, several other undefeated records will be put to the sword. Japanese fighter Rinya Nakamura will be defending his nine-match unbeaten UFC record as he faces the experienced Muin Gafurov, while American fighter Clayton Carpenter will be looking to continue his eight-match unbeaten run as he faces his most formidable challenge yet against Tagir Ulanbekov.
