With much of the attention in professional boxing directed to male heavyweight fighters like Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk, the female heavyweight division is often overlooked.

However, several talented female fighters have made history with high-profile victories, successful title defences, and memorable comeback wins.

Here, we introduce you to the female heavyweight boxing champions currently at the top of the sport and explain how to bet on female boxing at Parimatch

Is There a Heavyweight Class in Female Boxing?

Yes, there are 17 weight classes in women’s boxing, ranging from atomweight to heavyweight. Known as one of the “glamour divisions,” the heavyweight class has title belts from the WBO, IBF, WBA, and WBC.

There’s also cruiserweight (sometimes known as junior heavyweight) and light heavyweight. There are no cruiserweight women champions at the time of writing, only heavyweight and light heavyweight title holders.

American boxer Claressa Shields is the current WBC heavyweight boxing champion. In her 15-fight career, Shields won 15, three by knockout. Before switching to a mixed martial arts career, Shields won the last of her professional boxing fights in July 2024, defeating Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

She won the fight via a second-round KO, successfully defending her WBC heavyweight title. She dropped Joanisse three times on the night, retaining her reputation as the number one heavyweight female boxer.

No other female heavyweight titles are currently held by any active fighters, though Kiwi boxer Lani Daniels recently held the IBF heavyweight title, as we introduce below.

Claressa Shields also holds the current WBO light heavyweight belt, which she has also held since July 2024, as the title was on the line in her fight against Joanisse.

The IBF women’s light heavyweight champion is Lani Daniels of New Zealand. The Kiwi boxer has 11 career wins from 15 bouts. When Daniels defeated Desley Robinson in 2023, she became the first Māori to win two world titles, securing the IBF belt in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight classes. However, she vacated the IBF heavyweight title in December 2023.

Australian heavyweight boxer Che Kenneally is the current WBA light heavyweight champion. She has five wins from five in her career, with two wins by knockout. She won her WBA title fight in July 2024 against Angie Paola Rocha by TKO in the third round to win the title for the first time in her career.

Female Heavyweight Boxing Markets

There are several ways to bet on female heavyweight boxers at Parimatch. The first is to pick the winner of an upcoming fight, which is the most straightforward way to place a boxing bet.

The next is to get involved in round betting, which allows you to break the fight down into specific rounds. You can potentially capitalise on your research to profit from your wagers.

You can also bet on the method of victory you think one of the heavyweights will land, be it a KO, TKO, or split decision, for instance.
