We love boxing and betting on the best boxers as much as the next guy, and as much as we love the sport, sometimes it’s worth looking at not only the good, but also the bad and the ugly. There are many contenders for the title “Worst Boxer Ever’, and at Parimatch, we’ve ranked some of the worst ever boxers for you to see how they weigh up.

Keep reading to see our list at the bottom.

What Boxer Has The Most Losses?

The boxer with the most losses is Kristian Laight aka Mr Reliable – you could always count on him to be out for the count. He may have had the most losses, but according to our ranking, he had a success rate of 4%, making him the second worst on our list.

Donnie Penelton lost 167 fights out of a total 186 with 13 wins, giving him a success rate of 6.99%.

Peter Buckley from England – dubbed one of Britain’s Worst Boxers – racked up 256 losses out of a total of 300 fights. With 32 wins, he’s landed himself a success rate of 10.67%, putting him 3rd last.

Robin Deakin gained victory in his first debut fight in 2006, and after 51 consecutive losses, he won his second fight in 2015 against Deniss Kornilovs (all those years of training must have paid off). Robin Deakin retired in 2017 with a 2-53 record.

Who is The Worst Professional Boxer in History with a Title?

Most of the boxers in this list are in the amateur ring or never made it to the big title fights. But in terms of the worst professional boxer…

Leon Spinks is one of the names on this list that actually saw great success and victory in the boxing ring. In February 1978, he made boxing history by beating Muhammed Ali and winning the heavyweight title in his 8th ever professional fight. However, as much as he experienced the highs, he also had some major career lows. In an attempt to possibly prolong his time in the limelight as heavyweight champion, he refused to fight Ken Norton who was a contender for the title. But this strategy backfired as his title was stripped from him due to his actions. And to add insult to injury, he also lost the rematch bout to Ali in September 1978.

Leon Spinks throughout his boxing career fought a total of 46 fights and lost 17, giving him a success rate of 56.52% – which is quite low when compared to the boxing elite. In our books, this makes him one of the worst professional boxers out there.

By comparison, Muhammed Ali fought a total of 61 fights, winning 56 and losing only 5.  And in more modern times, the boxing betting favourite Oleksandr Usyk has won every single one of his 21 fights so far.

Who is The Worst Boxer with The Worst Debut Fight?

We’ve searched high and low and watched many a blow as we’ve scoured the internet for the worst debut fight, until we settled on one character that we think takes the cake. The boxer with the worst debut fight according to our rigorous grading system is Brian Sutherland. He may just have had the worst ever boxing debut, getting knocked out within the first 30 seconds of the first round. Ouch! And it’s only made worse by the commentators heard laughing as he goes down in the video – but at least maybe his infamous tidy mullet softened his KO.

Who Has the Worst Professional Boxing Record?

The worst professional boxer with the worst record ever is none other than Kristian Light, Mr Reliable, who took top spot from Reggie Strickland in 2018. Laight, labelled Britain’s worst boxer, retired in 2018 after losing his 277th professional fight and that may well make him the world’s worst boxer too. He fought 300 professional fights in total.

Reggie Strickland fought a total of 363 fights and lost 276 of those pro bouts, giving him a 18.18% success rate.

Who was The Most Feared Boxer of all time?

And now from the bad to the downright ugly. Who were the most intimidating boxers to contend with?

If you ask old school fighters about the most feared fighter that ever walked the ring, the one fighter whose name is shouted most quickly is Sonny Liston. Mike Tyson – no stranger to being feared himself – says the most powerful, strongest, most intimidating fighter in history was Sonny Liston. Mike Tyson and George Foreman both based their intimidation schtick on Sonny’s Liston real life persona. But why was Sonny Liston so feared? Sonny Liston lived a life of crime, in and out of prison, and packed one of the meanest punches around. After 2 years in prison, and training for that whole time, Sonny Liston was ready to turn professional once he was released – except nobody wanted to fight with a man with such a reputation as his. Even Muhammed Ali said: “Of all the men I fought in boxing, Sonny Liston was the scariest.”

Joe Frazier is another contender for most feared boxer. George Foreman said he was afraid to fight Joe Frazier due to his powerful left-hook he was famous for.

Who is The Most Feared Boxer Alive?

In terms of currently feared boxers, for us at Parimatch one specific person in the form of Zab Judah comes to mind.

Instead of fighting his opponent, Zab Judah tried to KO the referee in 2001 when he was disputing the referee’s decision to stop the fight prematurely against Kostya Tszyu. The boxer was fined $75,000 for the way he acted in the ring, his temper making him an intimidating opponent.

The Results are in... Worst Boxer: The Definitive Ranking

Being the worst boxer ever is not easy work and you need a great love for the sport to get back up again each time you get knocked down. It took hard work, resilience and dedication for everyone to get on our definitive Parimatch Worst Boxer list.

*Brian Sutherland is not included as he only fought a grand total of 2 fights – where he lost both, giving him a success rate of 0%.
