The usual suspects will be firing in the goals in the 2025/26 Premier League season, with Mo Salah, Erling Haaland, and Alexander Isak all keen to land the Golden Boot.
Following their big summer moves to Chelsea, Brazilian striker João Pedro and young hitman Liam Delap may also be in the conversation.

Mohamed Salah ended the season as the Premier League’s top scorer, netting 29 goals in 38 games as Liverpool romped to the title. It moved Salah to fifth in the all-time Premier League scorers list, surpassing Jermain Defoe, Robbie Fowler, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard and Sergio Agüero in the same season.
Next in the chart was Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who bagged 23 goals for the Toon Army. Isak would likely have scored more, but he was injured for a month.
The same was true of Erling Haaland, who scored 22 goals for Manchester City. The Norwegian international missed six games due to injury in the 2024/25 season, and would almost certainly have been top of the tree had he played as many games as Mo Salah.
For the second season running, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins ended the 2024/25 campaign as the Premier League’s top English scorer, this time netting 16 times.
Here’s a list of the top ten scorers at the end of the 2024/25 season in the English Premier League:
Player | Team | Games | Goals |
Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 38 | 29 |
Alexander Isak | Newcastle United | 34 | 23 |
Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 32 | 22 |
Bryan Mbeumo | Brentford | 38 | 20 |
Chris Wood | Nottingham Forest | 36 | 20 |
Yoane Wissa | Brentford | 35 | 19 |
Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa | 38 | 16 |
Cole Palmer | Chelsea | 37 | 15 |
Matheus Cunha | Wolverhampton Wanderers | 33 | 15 |
Jean-Phillipe Mateta | Crystal Palace | 37 | 14 |
Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland are the likeliest players to challenge Mohamed Salah for the 2025/26 season Golden Boot. Haaland has previous, and if he can stay injury-free, he will be shooting for 30+ goals this season.
Isak is Newcastle United’s main man, and following a trophy-winning 2024/25 campaign, he will look to fire the Magpies to even more silverware this term, alongside Champions League qualification via a top-four finish in the Premier League.
A good outside bet is Chris Wood, who has been consistently excellent for Nottingham Forest since joining from Newcastle. Also, since his move to Old Trafford, Matheus Cunha could improve on his 15 goals last term, while Cole Palmer and João Pedro at Chelsea could also challenge for the 2025/26 Golden Boot.
Penalties are crucial when considering who to back as the Premier League top scorer. This was perfectly illustrated by Mo Salah scoring nine penalties in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, meaning 31% of the Egyptian’s PL goals were scored from the spot.
Second on the list was Justin Kluivert, who scored 50% of his goals from the spot, converting six Premier League penalties on his way to 12 league goals for the season.
Bryan Mbeumo’s five penalties meant that 25% of his 20 PL goals came from the spot, while Alexander Isak managed four Premier League goals from penalties in the 2024/25 campaign.
We advise you to consider each club’s assigned penalty taker before settling on your top scorer bet, as it can make a huge difference to who ends the season on top.
Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah are the leading Golden Boot winners in Premier League history, with four apiece. If Salah wins again in 2025/26, he will be out on his own, as Thierry Henry has long retired from the game.
In second place is ex-Tottenham captain Harry Kane, who swapped London for Bavaria and is now firing in the goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich.
Here are some expert tips to consider before betting on the Premier League’s top scorer in the 2025/26 season:
A vital stat that all Premier League fans should look at is appearances. It’s simple: if the player isn’t getting enough minutes, he won’t get enough goals to win the Golden Boot.
Arguably, the most important stat is xG. Expected goals is a crucial statistic in predicting the Golden Boot winner because it provides a comprehensive measure of a player's goal-scoring opportunities and their quality.
We can assess a player's finishing ability by comparing their actual goals to their xG. Players who consistently score more than their xG are often excellent finishers, a key trait for a Golden Boot contender.
Over the past few years, the trend was to make the most of your wingers and sacrifice the striker by dropping them deep. Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool were fantastic at this. Roberto Firmino would play as a false nine, allowing the two Liverpool wingers to get all the goals. It’s fair to say Mohamed Salah thrived in this style of play.
However, more recently, the classic number nine has been reincarnated into the modern game. Players like Haaland and Watkins are prime examples of this.
Neither man drops deep to receive the ball but is always on the back foot of the deepest defender, ready to run in behind.
Another notable trend to look out for this season is penalty takers. Five of the last six Golden Boot winners took penalties for their team. It’s almost guaranteed that this season’s Golden Boot winner will take the spot kicks.
