With eight games of the Scottish Premier League already played and Celtic and Aberdeen leading the way, who are the current top scorers in the division?

Aberdeen’s Pape Gueye is ahead with five, though the Senegalese marksman will be out until the New Year with a quad injury, so he won’t be adding to his tally any time soon.

Below, we look at the top scorers and top assist makers in the SPL in 2024/25 and explain how to bet on the SPL top scorer at Parimatch.

Who Was the Top Scorer in the Scottish Premiership in 2023/24?

Heart of Midlothian’s Lawrence Shankland finished the 2023/24 campaign as the top scorer in the SPL, with 21 goals for the Jambos. Though he’s had a tough start to this season with Hearts, many expect him to find his scoring form again under new head coach Neil Critchley.

Rangers’ James Tavernier was second in the charts last season with 17 goals, while Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski scored 14 times, which earned him a transfer to Girona in La Liga. Below are details of the top ten scorers in the SPL last campaign:

Player   Team   Total goals
Lawrence Shankland   Heart of Midlothian   22
James Tavernier   Rangers   17
Bojan Miovski   Aberdeen   14
Theo Bair   Motherwell   13
Cyriel Dessers   Rangers   13
Matt O’Riley   Celtic   13
Kyogo Furuhashi   Celtic   11
Simon Murray   Ross County   11
Abdallah Sima  Rangers   11
Luke McCowan   Dundee   9
Marley Watkins   Kilmarnock   9

Scottish Premier League Scorers in 2024/25 So Far

With eight matches played, Celtic top the SPL table, with Aberdeen the surprise package in second place and unbeaten under new head coach Jimmy Thelin.

Rangers’ indifferent start to the season was compounded by yet another lousy afternoon at Rugby Park at the weekend, as they went down 1-0 to a hard-working Kilmarnock side on their terrible plastic pitch.

Rangers’ lack of goals is one reason they’re struggling, and remarkably, they’ve only scored once away from home this season.

Below are the top scorers in the SPL so far in the 2024/25 campaign, with a focus on the players at the top of the charts so far this season:

Player   Team   Total goals   Goals per 90
P. Gueye   Aberdeen   5  1.37
K. Furuhashi   Celtic   4  0.70
C. McGregor  Celtic   4  0.51
B. Kimpioka   St Johnstone     0.58
T. Olusanya   St Mirren   4  0.56
R. Hale   Ross County   4  0.50

Pape Habib Gueye, Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s impressive start to the season has been exemplified by Pape Gueye’s form in front of goal, with the Senegalese striker netting five times so far to lead the top-scorer table after game week eight.

However, Aberdeen’s marksman picked up a severe quad injury in training, which has ruled him out until January 2025. Aberdeen will undoubtedly miss his goals over the festive period, but expect him to be back amongst the goals as soon as he returns in the New Year.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor, Celtic

It’s no surprise that the effervescent Kyogo Furuhashi is Celtic’s joint top scorer so far this campaign, with the Japanese star bagging four goals so far this season.

However, it’s surprising that he’s joined by his captain, Callum McGregor, as the Celtic stalwart is not known for his goalscoring.

Still, the Hoops have made a fine start to the season under Brendan Rodgers, and despite dropping their first points against Aberdeen, they will be confident that Kyogo’s goals can fire them to another title this time.

Benjamin Kimpioka, St Johnstone

Although St Johnstone have had a tough start to the campaign, their Swedish centre forward Benjamin Kimpioka has caught the eye, with four league goals to his name already.

His goals weren’t enough to keep Craig Levein in a job, but St Johnstone’s new head coach Simo Valakari will hope that Kimpioka’s attacking qualities will push the Saints up the table.

Toyosi Olusanya, St Mirren

English striker Toyosi Olusanya has also made an impressive start to the campaign for St Mirren, scoring four goals for the Buddies so far.

St Mirren are currently eighth in the table following a tough start to the season and European commitments. With Olusanya at the head of their attack, they will hope to push up to the top six as the season progresses.

Ronan Hale, Ross County

Northern Irish striker Ronan Hale has adapted well to life in Dingwall following his transfer from Cliftonville, and he has done a great job of filling the gap left by Simon Murray.

Hale has already scored four goals this campaign, and he will be a crucial player for County as they hope to avoid relegation once again this season.

Scottish Premier League Top Assists in 2024/25 So Far

Aberdeen’s Jamie McGrath has been a creative force for the Dons this season, laying on six goals for his teammates to top the SPL assists chart after eight games.

He’s followed by Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn, who has four assists. In contrast, Greg Taylor, James Forest, and Kyogo Furuhashi (Celtic), Graeme Shinnie (Aberdeen), Lennon Miller (Motherwell), Lyall Cameron (Dundee), and Lawrence Shankland (Hearts) all have three assists so far.

Who Is the Top Scorer in Scottish Premier League History?

Rangers’ legend Kris Boyd is the top goal scorer in Scottish Premier League history. A lethal finisher, the striker primarily featured for a Rangers side that was hugely successful across two spells but also had three stints for Kilmarnock.

Truthfully, he’s miles ahead of second place, finishing his career with a remarkable total of 217 Scottish Premier League goals.

Henrik Larsson of Celtic previously held the record. The iconic Swede was a generational talent who spent much of his career at Parkhead. His rate of 138 goals in 176 games is one of the best goal-to-game rates in Scottish football history.

What Are The Most Points Scored in Scottish Premier League History?

Collectively, Celtic have amassed the most points throughout the history of the Scottish top flight, with 2,377. But much of this is down to the fact that their Old Firm rivals were relegated from the top flight for financial issues earlier this century.

Despite being absent from the top flight for the best part of a decade, Rangers are still Scotland’s most successful football team, with 55 titles.
