The summer is always a busy period for football teams looking for their next manager or head coach. After all, no team wants to have the wrong man at the helm throughout the summer transfer window, when squads need to be built and deadwood needs to be moved on.
Several British teams, including Glasgow Rangers, Queens Park Rangers, and Cardiff City, are looking for new managers. Following underwhelming seasons at both clubs, there’s also much speculation about the manager’s position at Arsenal and Manchester United in the English Premier League.
So, which teams are currently looking to appoint new managers at the start of this summer, and who is likely to take over at some of the biggest clubs in the UK? Join us as we explore the next manager odds and betting options at Parimatch Sportsbook.
Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is a polarising figure among the Gunners faithful. Many see him as the perfect head coach who has assembled a talented squad that regularly competes at the business end of the Champions League.
Others, however, see him as a nearly man, who has failed to deliver a major trophy other than the FA Cup in his first campaign in 2021.
So, if Arsenal look to appoint a new manager this summer, which names are in the frame? Italians Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte are just two of the names in the running.
It’s going to be a big summer for Arsenal, and it remains to be seen whether Arteta will be at the helm to oversee the transfer activity needed to secure a trophy for Arsenal next season.
Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has only just arrived at Old Trafford, but his Manchester United team has failed in practically every respect this season. He oversaw United’s lowest Premier League finish and lost the Europa League final to Spurs.
However, Amorim seems to have the backing of the Man United board, at least for the time being. They want to give him the summer to create a squad in his image, while removing underperforming prima donnas from the ranks.
There’s a lot of turmoil at Old Trafford right now, and anything can happen over the summer. Gareth Southgate, favoured by Jim Ratcliffe, is the favourite to replace Amorim, while Thomas Frank and Oliver Glasner are also being mentioned if the Portuguese coach leaves his post.
Glasgow Rangers
It’s been a tough few years for Glasgow Rangers fans. After Steven Gerrard bailed and left behind his title-winning team, Rangers have fallen well short of the expected standard and have been miles behind Old Firm rivals, Celtic.
Though he led them to a European final, Gio van Bronckhorst didn’t work out, while Michael Beale was a disaster. Belgian coach Phillipe Clement couldn’t get a tune out of his squad, either. So, who’s next for Rangers?
Gerrard has all but ruled out a return to Glasgow, with his family happy in Bahrain. After doing a decent job at Southampton, former Rangers defender Russell Martin is one of the likeliest options. Also in the frame is former Real Madrid assistant boss Davide Ancelotti, though Rangers fans would no doubt prefer his father, Carlo!
Whoever takes over has a huge job on his hands, as Rangers have a monumental rebuild ahead of them this summer, both on and off the field.
Queens Park Rangers
From one Rangers to another, QPR are also looking for a new man in the dugout. Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave just before his team’s final game of the season, with his services wanted elsewhere.
After leaving Norwich City, Johannes Hoff Thorup is the current favourite to take over at Loftus Road at Parimatch. The highly rated Dane had a disappointing campaign in East Anglia and will hope for a shot at Championship redemption in West London.
Other names being mentioned for the QPR job are Tom Cleverley and Onur Cinel. Cinel is the current RB Salzburg assistant manager and is looking for the opportunity to take over at a big club this summer.
Cardiff City
Cardiff City’s search for a new man to replace Omer Riza has taken more than six weeks, and many names have been thrown into the hat. Former Oxford United manager Des Buckingham is the leading contender.
Buckingham led United to playoff glory at the end of the 2023-24 season, but he was dismissed as Oxford struggled in the Championship in the lead-up to Christmas 2024. He’s a positive young coach with a good reputation and could lead Cardiff back up at the first time of asking.
Other names being considered are Leicester’s Brian Barry-Murphy and former Bolton Wanderers manager, Ian Evatt.
