Jamie Vardy is a Leicester City legend. While his final season with the Foxes didn’t go according to plan, he left the club as a Premier League champion with 200 goals across 500 appearances in the East Midlands.

As Parimatch is the official betting partner of Leicester City, we’re looking back at the most memorable moments of Vardy’s glittering career at the King Power Stadium, as the former England man looks for a new club at which to see out his career.

Premier League Champion

Undoubtedly, the highlight of Vardy’s Leicester City career was his title-winning campaign in the 2015-16 season. He scored 24 league goals for the Foxes and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for his outstanding performances.

He became the first Leicester player since Gary Lineker to score 20 top-flight goals for the Foxes, writing his name into the history books in more ways than one.

Ultimately, Vardy’s goals secured Leicester City their first-ever Premier League title. They won the league by ten points and finished clear with Arsenal, Spurs, and Manchester City in the top four. It was by far Vardy’s best achievement in a Leicester City jersey.

FA Cup Winner

Due to their Premier League win in 2016, Leicester’s FA Cup triumph five years later is often overlooked. Yuri Tielemans’ 63rd-minute goal against Chelsea at Wembley secured Leicester their first-ever FA Cup win in their fifth final appearance.

Vardy was overshadowed in the 2020-21 FA Cup campaign by Kelechi Iheanacho, who finished the competition with four goals for the Foxes. Still, Vardy lifted the famous old trophy at Wembley Stadium with his teammates, adding to his PL title.

Two-Time Championship Winner

Vardy has won the EFL Championship twice: in 2014 and 2024, highlighting the span of his career at Leicester City. From a personal perspective, the 2014 triumph was probably better for Vardy, as it solidified his place as Leicester’s leading man up top after a campaign in which he bagged 16 league goals for the Foxes.

In the 2023-24 season, Vardy finished as the league’s fifth top scorer, leading the way for Leicester with 18 goals. While not as impressive as his Premier League win, the second title was a memorable moment for Vardy, as he guaranteed one final season in the Premier League.

First England Goal

Vardy represented his country 26 times between 2015 and 2018, finding the net seven times for the Three Lions. Though he was never really used as the main man for England, he scored many crucial goals, but he will forever remember his goal against Germany in Berlin on his fifth cap in 2016.

He then scored on his next two appearances for England against the Netherlands and Turkey. Of all his England goals, his crucial equaliser against Wales in Lens at Euro 2016 was the most important, spurring England to a 2-1 victory.

Rejecting Arsenal

One of Vardy’s most memorable off-field moments at Leicester was his decision to reject Arsenal in 2016. The Gunners triggered the £22 million release clause in Vardy’s contract in June 2016, and many thought he would swap Leicester for London.

But after much discussion and negotiations with the Leicester City board, Vardy penned a new four-year deal at the King Power Stadium, further solidifying his legendary status among the Foxes fans.

Golden Boot Winner

In his 33rd year, Jamie Vardy became the oldest player to win the English Premier League Golden Boot, netting 23 goals in 35 appearances. It marked a brilliant campaign for Leicester, who finished fifth under Brendan Rodgers. You might remember their 9-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s during this campaign, which became the joint highest win in PL history.

In addition to the Golden Boot, Vardy won Leicester’s Player of the Year Award as he helped his teammates secure qualification for the UEFA Europa League.

Scoring in 11 Straight Games

Another record that Vardy holds is the record for most Premier League goals scored in a row. During the Foxes’ title-winning season, Vardy notched in 11 straight games.

He achieved the feat on November 28th, 2015, when he scored against Manchester United. The previous record was held by Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy, who would become the final manager that Vardy played under at the KP Stadium.

Goal Number 200

Though Leicester’s penultimate PL game of the 2024/25 season was a dead rubber against Ipswich Town, it was a huge game for Vardy.

It was his last game at the King Power Stadium, and he found the net for the 200th time in a Leicester City shirt, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career.

With 200 goals, Vardy ended his Leicester City career as the club’s third all-time scorer, behind Arthur Rowley and Arthur Chandler, who bagged 265 and 273 goals for the Foxes, respectively.

What’s Next for Jamie Vardy?

So, after leaving Leicester City, what’s next for the popular English forward? He’s announced that he’s looking for a new club, and there’s no question that he could still do a job in the Premier League.

That said, he might also fancy a challenge elsewhere, and the allure of Saudi money could tempt him into a big payday before hanging up his boots.

Wherever he ends up, Vardy will be remembered for his Roy of the Rovers story. A £1,000,000 punt from Leicester City brought him from non-league to the Football League, and within a few seasons, he was a Premier League champion with an FA Cup winners medal.

Not bad for a guy who was written off from the very start.
