Dubois v Joseph Parker Preview: What’s at Stake?
Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker will meet under the lights in Riyadh for Dubois’ IBF heavyweight title. This is the same venue that hosted the Fury v Usyk 2 fight, and it’s become the de-facto stadium for iconic heavyweight bouts.
Known as “The Last Crescendo,” this top-billed fight will see Dubois defend his title following an impressive win against Anthony Joshua in London when he stopped the former champion in the fifth round in front of a packed crowd at Wembley Stadium.
Few expected Dubois to defeat Joshua, with the latter vying to become a three-time world champion in London. Joshua also admitted that he wasn’t ready to face Dubois for a rematch in February, which is why Parker has stepped up to the plate.
Parker will lose his status as the WBO interim heavyweight champion, though. He won this title after beating Zhilei Zhang by a majority decision in his most recent fight in 2024.
Dubois has a 22-2 record, with 21 KOs in his 24 fights, and he is the favourite to defeat his Kiwi challenger, Joseph Parker. Six years Dubois’ senior, Parker also has an impressive career record of 35-3 from 38 fights, with 23 career KOs.
Beterbiev v Bivol 2 Preview
Also on the card on February 22 in Saudi Arabia is the hotly anticipated rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. When Beterbiev handed Bivol his first career defeat in October, he unified all four belts to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion.
The fearsome Beterbiev has 21 wins from 21 fights, with 20 KOs. His October fight against Bivol was the first time Beterbiev went the distance in his career, and his majority decision win surprised many.
Bivol has been steadfast in his position that he deserved to win the fight and he will have the chance to make amends when the two meet again in Saudi Arabia.
Other Fights to Look Forward to
The fight between British heavyweights Joshua Buatsi and Callum Smith is a mouth-watering prospect, with the two vying for Buatsi’s WBO interim title, which he won after a decisive win against Willie Hutchinson in September 2024.
After losing to Beterbiev, Smith won against Carlos Galvan and will fancy his chances against Buatsi, whom himself has his eyes on the winner of Beterbiev v Bivol in their rematch.
The clash between Zhilei Zhang and the undefeated Agit Kabayel for the interim WBO light heavyweight title also promises fireworks, with Zhang looking to build on his recent victory against Deontay Wilder in June 2024, which he secured with a fifth-round knockout.
Zhang is still keen on a rematch against Parker, which may be in the pipeline after this fight night in Riyadh. There are lots of sub-stories with so many big names scheduled for the Last Crescendo – you don’t want to miss this one.
